"Get up, hurry up!"
Slap slap slap slap...
Urgent, heavy knocking rang by his ear, waking Harry from his sleep.
That kind of knocking was anything but friendly. If it had been hot-tempered Dudley, he would probably have had a serious argument with Aunt Petunia.
But Harry was already used to it, and he had no standing to argue. He could only switch on the light, get dressed in the cramped space beneath the stairs, then put on the broken glasses from the cabinet behind him.
Bang bang bang bang bang...
Just as he sat up, Harry heard a dense series of heavy footsteps coming down the stairs above his head.
The owner of those footsteps was clearly doing it on purpose, even jumping back and forth on the stairs. The violent shaking sent a large amount of dust falling from above. Some landed on Harry's head, while some fell onto his always dust-covered blanket.
"Wake up, cousin! We're going to the zoo!"
That rough voice, unmistakably belonging to a brat, came from Dudley, Harry's cousin.
Dudley always liked bullying him in every possible way. Harry had tried to fight back, but his aunt and uncle always took Dudley's side, and he was nowhere near as strong as Dudley, so he could only endure being bullied.
Whenever that happened, Harry fantasized about having the magic from fairy tales, turning Dudley into a little pig and teaching him a lesson with magic.
Unlike other children, though, for Harry, it was not purely a fantasy. When he was younger, many mysterious things had happened to him. For example, if he imagined Dudley falling down, Dudley really would fall.
It had happened more than once, and Harry did not think it was a coincidence.
Those were among the few times he had gained the upper hand in his "battles" with Dudley.
After getting dressed, Harry stood up and prepared to leave the space beneath the stairs.
There was no need to doubt it. He knew that the moment he pushed open the door, Dudley would shove him back inside as usual before slamming the door shut.
Even so, he still had to go out. If he did not, Dudley could keep this up with him all day!
And if Aunt Petunia found out in the end, she definitely would not scold Dudley. She would give Harry a harsh punishment instead. He was always the one who lost out.
So, even knowing what would happen next, Harry still pushed open the door and went along with Dudley's daily prank.
But today, something seemed different...
Harry stared blankly at everything before him. The sky was dark, and only the dim glow of streetlights provided illumination. It was obviously nighttime!
The bleak street, the rotten stench of roadside garbage, and the scattered people along the road all told Harry that this was not the Dursley's House he knew!
Where was this? What had happened?
He had only pushed open the door beneath the stairs. How had he ended up in such an unfamiliar place?
And the time was wrong too. Why was it night? It was supposed to be morning!
In the past, Harry had always longed for change. But when change suddenly arrived, he felt afraid instead, especially since the place he was in did not seem safe.
He was currently on a remote street. The staggering adults wandering about like zombies did not look like respectable people at all.
Harry was terrified. He carefully walked along one side of the road, hoping to reach a busy main street as soon as possible. Surely it would be much safer there.
But the thing he feared most still happened. As he turned a corner, the dim light cast by a streetlamp was blocked by a tall man, shrouding Harry in shadow.
The tall figure was a middle-aged man with greasy hair and a foul stench clinging to him, as if he had not bathed in a long time.
What truly terrified Harry was that the middle-aged man was pointing a black pistol at him and grinning viciously.
"Ha ha ha, my luck is pretty good. Look what I found—a little brat wandering around a remote street in the middle of the night!
I can sell you for some money. Then I can enjoy myself for a few more weeks!"
Faced with the pitch-black muzzle, fear swallowed Harry like the deepest darkness.
He tried to resist, but fear bound his limbs. No matter how hard he struggled, he could not move them even an inch. He could only let the rough, large hand seize him by the collar, just like Uncle Vernon usually did when he dragged Harry and threw him into the space beneath the stairs.
Only, unlike before, Uncle Vernon might have been cruel, but he would not kill him. The middle-aged man before him would absolutely not mind breaking his limbs!
Change had come, but it had not made Harry's life better. It had only made it worse.
At that moment, Harry thought of his old life. Before this change had come, he had been bullied by his aunt's family and had not been happy.
But now that change had arrived, was he supposed to fall even lower?
No!
It could not be like this!
An intense unwillingness burned like fire in Harry's heart.
Finding courage from nowhere, the eleven-year-old child bit down hard on the middle-aged man's hand. As the man cried out in pain, Harry fled into the distance.
"You little bastard! I'll kill you!"
The middle-aged man roared behind him. It was obvious that if Harry was caught again, the outcome would be terrible.
Faster. Run faster!
A child's physical strength was far weaker than an adult's. He should have been caught after only a few steps.
But for some reason, Harry felt an endless stream of strength surging from within him. It grew stronger and stronger, strengthening his body and keeping the middle-aged man from catching him for the moment.
The middle-aged man wanted to sell Harry for a higher price as well, so he did not fire. Instead, he chased after him with all his might.
Like that, Harry and the man gradually drew closer to a bustling area.
Then Harry saw a couple ahead of him. Unlike the zombie-like adults around them, the man was handsome and the woman was beautiful. Smiles filled their faces, brightening the darkness around them.
Harry had a feeling that they were kind people. They could help him!
So he hurried behind the stronger man, clutched the corner of his clothes tightly, and pleaded in a trembling voice on the verge of tears.
"Sir, please help me... Please help me!"
At first, the couple clearly did not understand what was happening. But when they saw the middle-aged man chasing after Harry, they immediately realized something was wrong.
At first, Harry worried whether the couple would help him. That vicious middle-aged man looked like a truly ruthless criminal, and more importantly, he had a gun!
But to Harry's surprise, after the couple understood the situation, they did not hesitate at all. They immediately shielded him behind them.
The woman gently held him in her arms, protecting him behind her.
The woman was clearly very afraid as well, but she still comforted him in a trembling voice.
"Don't be afraid, child. Ben will stop the bad man!"
She seemed to be comforting Harry, but also herself.
Mr. Ben stood in front of them and bravely faced the vicious criminal.
"Sir, I don't know how my child offended you, but I apologize to you. Please forgive him."
The criminal held his gun, his face twisted into a savage expression.
"Cut the crap. Get out of my way. You definitely don't know him! Don't meddle in other people's business, or I won't mind killing two more people!"
The gentle woman's comforting words still echoed in his ears. Harry stared at Mr. Ben's back and suddenly felt a warmth spread through him.
No one had ever cared about him before. At Dursley's House, he had never had his own birthday party like Dudley, nor had he ever received any care from his aunt and uncle.
There had only ever been endless chores, Dudley's old hand-me-down clothes, and that cramped space beneath the stairs where he slept.
That was his life. He had always been all alone, let alone having someone care for him so recklessly. Even if he had a conflict with another child, no matter who was right or wrong, his aunt and uncle would only make him apologize.
Because to them, he was a burden, never their beloved son.
But now, he felt that warmth from a pair of strangers. They were even willing to risk their lives to help him and patiently soothe his emotions.
Harry had never experienced such a feeling before.
In a daze, a beam of light pierced the darkness and shone into Harry's life. He suddenly felt that today's change was not as bad as he had imagined!
Bang bang bang bang bang...
Suddenly, a string of piercing gunshots rang out ahead.
Harry felt heat on his cheek. He instinctively touched his face, lowered his head, and saw tiny crimson bloodstains on his hand!
The next moment, the beautiful and gentle woman let out a grief-stricken cry.
"Ben!"
Looking ahead, Harry saw that Mr. Ben had somehow fallen into a pool of blood. The gentle woman was holding Mr. Ben's body and weeping in sorrow.
The criminal's expression grew even more ferocious, his gritted teeth making him look like a demon from the abyss.
"I warned you. This is what happens when you meddle in other people's business!
Ha ha ha, this chick is pretty too. If I sell you as well, I should get even more money. I won't have to worry for months!"
Crack!
The gentle woman's sobs continued to echo in Harry's ears. In his mind, he heard the crisp sound of glass shattering, as if something that had already been at its limit had finally broken apart!
He suddenly felt as if time had slowed. Ever since arriving in this place, the faint power within him had been building like a volcanic eruption.
Perhaps because this energy had never entered an environment with such dense energy before, it continued expanding, expanding, bringing with it incomparable power!
Just as the criminal was about to brutally grab the gentle woman by the hair, Harry erupted when the power in his body reached its limit!
"How dare you?!"
Endless black mist erupted from Harry's body, instantly enveloping him.
In an instant, the thick, almost tangible black mist completely covered the area around him.
Perhaps because this world possessed a higher energy level, the dark power known as an Obscurus, which had once terrified wizards in the Wizarding World, erupted with power far beyond that of the Wizarding World. At the same time, Harry could control it with ease.
The black mist carefully avoided Mr. Ben and the gentle woman before instantly binding the terrified criminal.
Surrounded by black mist, Harry slowly walked toward the criminal. Behind him were terrifying clouds of mist and flickering bolts of dark crimson energy.
He came before the immobilized criminal. With a slight thought, the black mist lifted the man into the air.
Harry's face was filled with fury. He could still maintain his reason, but he did not want to.
So he repeated:
"How dare you?!"
