Dumbledore paused before continuing:

"But unlike other rules, the God of Death developed a consciousness of his own, and he harbored malice toward humans and wizards. If allowed to continue growing, he might one day destroy both wizards and humans.

"But by chance, the three brothers encountered the God of Death, deceived him, and took the most essential part of his power from him—the Deathly Hallows. This greatly suppressed his growth.

"And once the God of Death regains control of the Elder Wand, the Resurrection Stone, and the Invisibility Cloak, the balance between life and death throughout the magical world will likely be completely shattered."

At last, Dumbledore's gaze softened slightly, though it still carried an unquestionable resolve.

"It seems our struggle against death will be even longer than we imagined.

"But as long as there are people willing to protect the light, he will never succeed."

In response to Dumbledore's words, Harry shook his head. He raised his head to look at Dumbledore, his voice somewhat low.

"Professor, I know protecting the light is important, but preventing the God of Death's return is like trying to plug a crack that can never be filled.

"If he can keep trying to break free of his restraints, then that means he has never truly disappeared.

"Rather than waiting for him to make a comeback, we should find a way to end him for good.

"Even if that path is harder, at least it would spare those who come after us from living in fear that he might return.

"We shouldn't only be guardians. Sometimes, only by cutting off the root of a threat completely can the light truly remain in peace."

Dumbledore's fingers paused. Behind his lenses, his blue eyes flashed with a complex light beneath the dim yellow candlelight.
