His gaze fell on the mission list. Only three unfinished missions remained.
The Soul Fire in Han Wu's skull paused.
His total Assessment Points currently stood at 3,480, placing him third. He was still 130 Assessment Points behind first place's 3,610.
Yet only three missions remained on the list: eliminate the Dark Frogman demigod, worth 100 Assessment Points; wipe out the Minotaur Tribe; and eradicate the Evil Treant Forest, each worth 90 Assessment Points.
All three missions were hard bones to gnaw through.
But for Han Wu, they posed little difficulty.
After days of slaughter, the Skeleton Soldiers under his command had surged to twenty million.
Among them were two Heroic Lifeforms and 190 Extraordinary Lifeforms.
A force of this scale was no weaker than that of some demigods.
"First, I'll wipe out the Minotaur Tribe. It's closer." Han Wu looked over the map and made his decision.
After issuing a Divine Decree, twenty million Skeleton Soldiers advanced toward their target like a sea of bones.
Within the Minotaur Tribe, the sounds of battle shook the heavens.
Brawny minotaurs wielded stone-pillar totems, driving back the attacking hellhounds and Lizardmen.
Zhang Xiaolong's Abyssal Dragon form and Xu Sun's Liger form were locked in battle with a Minotaur Heroic Lifeform.
This Minotaur Heroic Lifeform was truly formidable. Clutching a stone-pillar totem as thick as a water barrel, it faced two opponents alone, forcefully withstanding the attacks of two Extraordinary Lifeforms without falling into disadvantage.
One had to know that the Abyssal Dragon and the Liger were already no weaker in combat power than certain Heroic Lifeforms. With their combined assault, their might was even greater.
Yet after failing to take it down for so long, Zhang Xiaolong grew anxious.
Han Wu had been Slaughtering the Ranks these past few days. Who could look at that and not be afraid?
If Han Wu took first place again, the resources he received would crush everyone else's.
Zhang Xiaolong would have even less hope of ever rising above the crowd.
Thus, Zhang Xiaolong had specifically contacted Xu Sun, who likewise had some friction with Han Wu. The two joined forces to seize points, determined to halt Han Wu's momentum.
Xu Sun readily agreed, bringing his Core Kin, the Lizardmen, into the battle.
But the Minotaur Tribe was simply too powerful. Every adult minotaur possessed the strength of an Elite Lifeform, and they had thick skin and flesh, with immense strength. They were truly difficult to deal with.
The attack had already lasted four hours. Though the minotaurs had suffered losses, they only fought more fiercely as the battle continued.
Meanwhile, Zhang Xiaolong and Xu Sun's combined forces had suffered grievous casualties.
If this continued, the troops they had painstakingly built up might be wiped out.
With no other choice, the two exchanged a look and chose to retreat.
They had tested it firsthand: the Minotaur Tribe was a hard bone to gnaw through. Even together, they could not bite through it, so they were certain Han Wu would not be able to either.
With that thought in mind, the two issued Divine Decrees, calling for their kin to withdraw.
But just as their kin began to move, Zhang Xiaolong and Xu Sun sensed that something was wrong with their surroundings.
At some unknown time, a ring of Skeleton Soldiers had gathered outside the Minotaur Tribe.
Looking into the distance, the Skeleton Soldiers seemed endless, stretching all the way to the horizon.
Zhang Xiaolong and Xu Sun's expressions turned ugly beyond measure.
The same thought arose in both their minds.
Don't tell me we've run into an Undead Cataclysm?
The Skeleton Soldiers launched into battle against the minotaurs, hellhounds, and Lizardmen.
The scene was incomparably fierce. Vast numbers of Skeleton Soldiers were smashed into broken bones.
Any one of the three kin possessed enough combat power to easily challenge over a hundred times their initial number of Skeleton Soldiers, as though the Skeleton Soldiers had been molded from mud.
Only then did Zhang Xiaolong and Xu Sun's expressions improve somewhat. Taking advantage of the situation, they prepared to charge out of the Skeleton Soldiers' encirclement.
But Han Wu, commanding the Skeleton Soldiers, had no intention of letting them have their way.
A Heroic Lifeform Bone Controller beneath Han Wu stepped forward.
It raised a hand, and countless shattered bones converged upon it.
In an instant, it transformed into a Bone Giant twenty meters tall.
The Bone Giant strode into the fray. With nothing more than simple stomps and punches, it dealt considerable damage.
The dead lifeforms were subjected to Skeleton Summon by Skeleton Knights, becoming fighting power for the Skeleton Legion once more.
The Skeleton Soldiers multiplied with every kill, creating a scene of utter despair.
Zhang Xiaolong and Xu Sun gritted their teeth and made a decision.
They planned to abandon their kin and rely on their own strength to break out of the encirclement first.
But the moment they began moving, the Bone Giant seemed to have guessed their intentions and blocked their escape route.
Amid their fear, the two heard a familiar voice coming from atop the Bone Giant's shoulder.
"Hello, Zhang Xiaolong. Hello, Xu Sun."
The two men's pupils contracted in shock, unable to believe what they were seeing.
They looked up and discovered a jade-boned Little Skeleton standing atop the Bone Giant's shoulder.
Looking closer, Han Wu's figure appeared over the Little Skeleton.
"Han Wu!" Zhang Xiaolong's Abyssal Dragon incarnation let out a low growl, as if he wanted to bite through his own mouthful of fangs.
Xu Sun's Liger incarnation widened its eyes, unable to believe that Little Skeleton was Han Wu. "Wasn't your Core Kin made up of locusts?"
Han Wu did not answer. He commanded the Bone Giant to raise its massive foot and bring it crashing down, crushing Zhang Xiaolong's Abyssal Dragon incarnation in a single stomp.
Only after stomping him flat did he say, "Goodbye, Zhang Xiaolong."
Not far away, Xu Sun's entire incarnation was scared senseless.
Although the Abyssal Dragon incarnation possessed combat power comparable to a Heroic Lifeform, the Bone Giant formed by the Bone Controller possessed the strength of a peak Heroic Lifeform. The gap between them was simply far too vast.
The Abyssal Dragon incarnation had not died unjustly.
But before he had even finished greeting him, Han Wu had stomped him to death. Just how deep was the grudge between those two?
After the Abyssal Dragon incarnation died, Zhang Xiaolong's true body did not descend for a long while.
Han Wu guessed that Zhang Xiaolong had withdrawn from the assessment.
He checked the rankings, and sure enough, Zhang Xiaolong's name had turned gray.
Zhang Xiaolong must have known that even if his true body descended, he would still be no match for Han Wu, so he simply gave up altogether.
Han Wu snorted coldly and looked down at Xu Sun below.
He remembered very clearly that Xu Sun had once tried to swindle his divinity away at a dirt-cheap price.
"Xu Sun." As Han Wu spoke, the Bone Giant raised its foot once more.
At the sight, Xu Sun lost every trace of the pride of a young master from a godly family and cried out urgently, "Han Wu, there isn't any major conflict between us! I can apologize to you for the misunderstanding before. But if you kill me, it won't do you the slightest bit of good!"
The Bone Giant's foot stopped in midair.
Han Wu's voice came from above. "Letting you go doesn't seem to do me any good either."
"I'll give you thirty percent of the treasures I obtained in this plane. I only ask that you spare my life," Xu Sun pleaded.
Han Wu said disdainfully, "Thirty percent isn't enough to buy the life of an Extraordinary Lifeform Liger."
"Fifty percent! I'll give you fifty percent!" Xu Sun raised the offer.
After descending into this plane, his Liger incarnation had absorbed quite a few treasures. As long as it could return alive through teleportation, given enough time, it would certainly evolve into a Heroic Lifeform.
For the sake of a Heroic Lifeform, Xu Sun felt that giving up fifty percent of his gains was still acceptable.
After a brief consideration, Han Wu agreed to Xu Sun's terms.
Unlike Zhang Xiaolong, Xu Sun had never deliberately tried to harm him. He could let him off this once.
Besides, he was not letting him go for nothing. Xu Sun had 3020 Assessment Points, and fifty percent of his gains would not be a small amount.
Seeing Han Wu agree, Xu Sun let out a breath of relief.
Trading fifty percent of his gains for the life of his Liger incarnation was secondary. What he truly wanted was to survive and complete the assessment.
This assessment would have some effect on university selection. In the eyes of the universities, leaving the assessment alive and withdrawing from it were entirely different concepts.
"Then let's sign a contract, so neither of us can go back on our word," Xu Sun proposed proactively, afraid that Han Wu might regret it.
Han Wu did not trust Xu Sun's contract. He drafted a contract himself using the God Login Pod's functions.
After both sides signed their names on the contract, Xu Sun handed over fifty percent of his gains and fled with his remaining Kin.
Han Wu, meanwhile, continued controlling the Skeleton Legion as it besieged the minotaur tribe.
