After Malcolm led Ang and the cavalry unit to the area where the demons had appeared, Ang kept his promise and allowed him to leave and return to Latvia City. "Captain, why let him leave?" someone asked doubtfully.
"He has his own plans, and he didn't come here for training like we did," Ang explained. However, his explanation did not win the students' full approval. They all considered Malcolm a coward who lacked the courage to face the demons. Listening to their discussions, Ang made no attempt to stop them. He knew that everyone had their own fears and choices.
"Enough discussion. It's time to officially begin our reconnaissance mission," Ang said decisively, cutting them off as he assigned tasks. He instructed everyone to form a long line, spread out rather than cluster together, and carefully survey the area in a linear formation. The students put the knowledge they had learned at the academy into practice, and before long, someone found something unusual.
When Ang hurried over, he found that they were only ordinary animal hoofprints. Druviena's mountainous terrain was complex and uneven, covered everywhere in clover and low trees. Since the area was unusual, no herders were willing to bring their livestock here anymore. The clover covered the traces on the ground, and for the moment, they found no useful clues.
"It seems this linear approach won't solve the problem effectively." After pondering for a moment, Ang gathered everyone together. "Let's try another method. Form teams of three and scout in multiple directions." He repeatedly warned them to be careful. If they found anything amiss, they were to retreat immediately and regroup with the main force. Keeping Ang's instructions firmly in mind, they quickly divided into ten teams and set off to scout in different directions.
