As his studies deepened, Ang gradually came to understand why he had been able to so easily shatter the Demons' defenses on the Maple Sugar Plane. During his battles with the Demons, he had discovered that when his Qi force coated his battle axe, it could effortlessly pierce their normally impregnable defenses. At first, Ang had not given it much thought and had simply attributed it to the strength of his Qi force. But as he delved deeper into elemental theory at the Imperial Magic Academy, he finally found the answer.
Demons belonged to the Abyssal Race, creatures that lived at the bottom of the Sea of Planes. These creatures generally possessed powerful Dark Element traits. Ang's Qi force, meanwhile, carried the traits of the Light Element. Light and darkness were not among the four basic elemental systems of earth, fire, wind, and water. They belonged to another independent elemental system—the holy system. Holy-system elements generally included the Light Element and Dark Element. The Light Element possessed powerful purification and dispelling properties, placing it in a naturally opposing position to the abyssal system.
Because the Light Element possessed potent purification and banishment abilities, while Abyssal Races such as Demons drew their core power from the Dark Element, this opposition allowed Ang's Qi force to naturally destroy Demons' defenses in battle. The Light Element's pure and sacred nature had an innate restraining effect on the Dark Element and abyssal power. That was why Ang had been able to kill Demons so easily on the Maple Sugar Plane. Whenever Ang coated his battle axe with Qi force, that Qi force infused with the Light Element became the Demons' nemesis.
When Ang recalled those battles, he could often picture the fear and pain that flashed across the Demons' faces the instant his battle
