Ch. 581Emperor Shen Lang, Long Live the Great Imperial Enterprise!
Plot points and events
- With the Great Qian army marching on Qian Capital, Raging Tide City is left under Jack Tang, Hella, and local leaders. The city’s defenses are strengthened with newly built Aerial Fortresses, weapons, and roughly 200,000 troops.
- Sect Leader Ren arrives and is welcomed as an imperial relative. He asks to take his unconscious daughter, Ren Yingying, home, and Shen Lang’s earlier orders allow him to leave with her. Ren is stunned by her dramatic, inhuman transformation, which has recently stalled.
- On the way toward Qian Capital, Ren learns that Ying Guang is dead: the false Dragon Egg Shen Lang supplied caused his body to decay and drove him mad. Shaken by the death of his longtime companion, Ren sends a secret letter to Wu Jue for Ren Tianxiao, then returns to Floating Pagoda Mountain.
- Shen Lang enters Qian Capital with 50,000 troops. The city’s 200,000 defenders surrender without meaningful resistance, and the palace is already occupied by kneeling officials and attendants. Shen Lang reclaims the Great Qian Palace, while his officials celebrate the restoration of the Jiang Clan’s ancestral seat.
- Former Ying officials rapidly switch back to Great Qian uniforms and proclaim Shen Lang emperor. Zhao Lin and Lan Mo publicly abase themselves for past associations and offenses. Shen Lang orders Lan Mo executed by Death by a Thousand Cuts; Zhao Lin collapses in terror.
- In the palace, Shen Lang asks whether the surrendered officials should all be killed. Ning Qi argues that even former enemies can reform, citing his own past and urging measured punishment. Lord Jun likewise advises mercy alongside punishment.
- Wu Jue, a trusted envoy of Floating Pagoda Mountain and Shen Lang’s “sworn elder brother,” arrives seeking an audience.
Character developments and interactions
- Shen Lang shows little personal excitement at taking the capital, but remains angry at its people and officials. His harsh treatment of Lan Mo warns the surrendered elite that submission alone will not erase past conduct; his question about mass punishment leaves his final policy unresolved.
- Sect Leader Ren moves from formal, courteous diplomacy with Raging Tide City’s leaders to shock and grief after learning of Ying Guang’s death. His reaction reveals the depth of their thirty-year bond despite Ying Guang’s flaws.
- Ren Yingying is still unconscious but has undergone striking physical and energetic changes, suggesting a powerful transformation whose nature remains unexplained.
- Ning Qi demonstrates loyalty and humility by using his own history of opposition to argue that others deserve a chance to reform. Lord Jun supports a balanced approach: punishment for some, leniency for others.
- Zhao Lin and Lan Mo illustrate the former regime’s rapid, fearful opportunism: they switch allegiance and blame or disown one another to survive. Shen Lang’s order against Lan Mo turns their desperate displays into a warning.
- Raging Tide City’s leaders treat Sect Leader Ren with respect despite political tensions, honoring Shen Lang’s instruction not to obstruct him.
