As tremors shook the place again and again, the four Web Gods living in the Pantheon all rose to their feet and looked at one another.

The Web of Destiny was trembling violently, as though it itself were facing some enormous threat. Yet Shathra clearly had not been released, because the Web of Destiny had suffered no damage.
This strange situation left the Web Gods utterly confused. After checking the entire Web of Destiny, Anansi gave an answer that was hard to process. "Uh, well, it seems our clan leader from Earth-616 is fighting Chthon. At least, Chthon's energy is coming through the Web of Destiny."
"...Which Chthon?"
"The Great God of Black Magic, the God of Darkness, the Primordial Fire..."
Sorcerer Supreme Spider-Man cut off Anansi's rambling. "What exactly is going on? Has Chthon invaded the Web of Destiny?"
"Not yet, but he keeps opening rifts leading to the Web of Destiny—the kind used to travel across the multiverse. The more rifts he tears open, and the bigger they get, the greater the chance that Chthon will infiltrate it."
"So, are we saving him?" Phoenix Spider Jean Grey asked. She looked quite young, perhaps only in her early twenties. Since she was one of the few Spider Totems who was neither Peter Parker nor part of Peter Parker's social circle, she often could not understand how the Peter Parkers thought.
After a moment of silence, Sorcerer Supreme Spider-Man looked at Phoenix Spider. "Can you imagine what would happen if our clan leader fell into Chthon's hands? The Great God of Black Magic would gain access to the celestial map pathways of every living soul in the entire multiverse."
