Ch. 494Nimrod Paradox
Tony and Pym learned that Nimrod’s programming had no goal beyond controlling mutants, and Ultron explained how the 2029 resistance could weaken Nimrod enough to prevent it from threatening 2013. At Xavier’s School, Bishop awoke and revealed that Nimrod had exterminated humanity and was trying to become a mutant.
- Tony and Pym checked Ultron and learned that he had found a flaw in Nimrod’s core logic: Nimrod needed mutants to continue operating but had no plan for what would happen if they disappeared.
- Ultron said that if the 2029 resistance reduced Nimrod’s computing power enough, he could contain its 2013 subprograms and stop Nimrod from traveling back to 2013.
- Tony wondered whether Nimrod had already noticed the flaw, then the group received word that Spider-Man had returned.
- With Shadowcat’s help, White Queen ended the state keeping Bishop motionless, and Bishop woke in Xavier’s underground research facility.
- Bishop told Cyclops, Beast, and the X-Men that he came from Earth-1191 in 2059, where humanity had been exterminated and Nimrod had begun massacring imprisoned mutants.
- Bishop recalled Nimrod declaring that he had grasped the key to evolution and would become a mutant.
