"I can create a temporary passage, but there'll only be one chance. Can you do it?"
Touma swallowed.
From where they stood to where Misaka Mikoto floated in the air, there had to be at least a hundred meters.
And that was only the straight-line distance, not the actual route.
"Even if I can't, I have to." Touma clenched his fist. "Bring it on!"
"Mm. I'll create an opening. But for now—get out of the way!"
In an instant, Misaka Mikoto raised her hand, and a torrent of thunderstorm more than five meters wide descended from the heavens.
The two dodged the thunderstorm, but another bolt followed immediately after. There was nowhere to evade.
"Reflect it back—!" Accelerator raised a hand. The lightning seemed to crash into an invisible barrier, twisting and rebounding instantly. But Misaka Mikoto's computational power far exceeded imagination. The reflected lightning suddenly split apart in midair, turning into hundreds of tiny electric snakes that attacked again from every direction!
"Tch!" Accelerator gritted her teeth and swiftly adjusted her calculations, but her reaction speed could no longer keep up with the lightning's multiplication.
Every time she reflected a bolt of lightning, it split apart again, as if it could multiply without end.
"This is bad—"
Even the best defense would eventually fail.
But at that moment, Touma rushed forward and extended his right hand.
His right arm tore through the air, and every bolt of lightning it touched instantly collapsed, turning into nonexistent electric sparks. But the torrent of lightning was too dense for him to defend against completely.
Yet the two stood back-to-back. Touma blocked the attacks Accelerator missed, while Accelerator intercepted the attacks Touma let through.
After a long while, the onslaught finally faded.
"11:57." Accelerator had been silently counting in her head. "Now!"
"Yeah!"
