This document showed that so-called angels were lifeforms created by humans. Humanity had completely assimilated all life on Earth, becoming a single unified lifeform. They were creatures without intelligence, capable only of feeling happiness. Since their genes and matter were identical, they could continuously merge and divide, and possessed the ability to repair and assimilate.

These angels survived until the end of Earth. Then, by chance, one angel once again felt pain and discomfort, and so... intelligence was born once more.

Faced with Earth's end, some Return faction angels believed that all intelligence should be erased. Without intelligence, time would not exist. Without time, nothing would reach its end. Thus, they wanted to return to being angels without intelligence.

Meanwhile, another group of Escape faction angels attempted to leave Earth. In the end, the ship of the apocalypse finally set sail, leaving Earth behind and witnessing the aging of the Milky Way, the extinction of superclusters, and the end of the universe.

Thus, these were the "Angels of Twilight" who witnessed the end of the universe, while the existence that first awakened to intelligence was Lanmoliwf, the "Angel of Pain."

All in all, they were ultimate lifeforms with infinite lifespans, boundless wisdom, and the experience of witnessing the universe's end.

In trendy terms, this was a lifeform that had achieved "ascension of flesh and blood."

In a materialistic world, angels like this might have been fairly easy to deal with.

But... this was A Certain Magical Index.

The name "angel" carried meaning.

An angel's actions also carried meaning.

The Return faction angels believed that if intelligence were eliminated, the concept of time would disappear and the universe would not end. That was idealism, or rather, the anthropic principle.
