Background and History

Thor comes to Earth after losing his divine powers. Convinced that retrieving Mjolnir will restore them, he breaks into the S.H.I.E.L.D. base built around the hammer and defeats several agents, but cannot lift it. S.H.I.E.L.D. takes him into custody 11 27 36.

Loki secretly visits Thor during his confinement and tells him that Odin has died and his exile is permanent. Thor blames himself and feels unworthy of Mjolnir 18. When the Destroyer attacks, Thor regains his powers and defeats it. He then returns to Asgard to confront Loki, who is attempting to destroy Jotunheim with the Bifrost 1630 1633 710.

Thor later joins Earth's heroes against Loki and the Chitauri. He initially clashes with Tony Stark over Loki's custody, then fights alongside the Avengers in New York, using lightning against Chitauri aircraft and Leviathans 133 1648 50. After the battle, he, Sif, and the Warriors Three prepare to restore peace across the Nine Realms 143.

During the Dark Elf conflict, Thor fights a Cursed Warrior in Asgard and pursues Malekith through a dimensional rift to Greenwich. Leo captures Malekith, whom Thor takes back to Asgard for imprisonment 1051 1054 237. Later, after learning that Asgard failed to answer Nidavellir's distress call, Thor returns home to investigate Odin's unusual behavior 1292 1294.

Thor is a tall, muscular blond man. His appearance draws attention even when his powers are sealed 96 1036.

Personality

Thor is proud of his identity and fighting ability. Early in his exile, he insists that no one on Earth can defeat him once he recovers Mjolnir; losing an arm-wrestling contest to Leo does little to shake that belief 11. He is fond of recounting battles and treats fighting as a point of honor 1284.

His exile and later defeats temper that confidence. He comes to understand his duty to protect the Nine Realms and, after struggling against the Cursed Warrior, becomes more aware of his limits 1633 1051 1052. He is reluctant to fight Loki despite opposing his plans, and grows wary when Leo gathers Infinity Stones, fearing their power could corrupt his friend 710 1286.
