Background

Quill was born on Earth and lost his mother at the age of seven. Yondu then took him into the Ravagers, where he grew up among pirates, criminals, and mercenaries. His mother's music and the portable player she left him remained his most important connection to Earth. 818

Yondu personally raised and trained Quill, teaching him to shoot and investing in his combat potential. Within the Ravagers, Quill developed top-tier combat skills, strategic thinking, and physical ability. 215 After leaving the group, he was considered a traitor under Ravager rules, though Yondu repeatedly allowed him to escape.
