Meteorites were common, yet not entirely common.
On a cosmic scale, most of them stayed obediently within the asteroid belt in the Solar System, while some broke free and periodically visited the Shinobi World.
There were three main sources.
The asteroid belt within the Solar System, comets passing near the Shinobi World, and asteroids from beyond the Solar System.
In other words, before smashing the Shinobi World with meteorites, the Otsutsuki on the Moon needed to have meteorites first.
Ever since realizing the threat posed by Insect Princess, the Otsutsuki had consciously begun capturing asteroids, accumulating a quantity that was not particularly satisfying.
First of all, the ones that were too small would not do. They lacked power, and before they could even land, the asteroids would burn up in the atmosphere above the Shinobi World, limiting the damage they could cause.
But the ones that were too large would not do either.
For one thing, they were impossible to control.
The second issue was time.
Large meteorites that drew near once every seven, ten, twenty, or thirty years required patient waiting.
The third issue was luck.
The Shinobi World was merely an inconspicuous planet in the Solar System. The other big brothers in the same star system were not only more massive but also possessed stronger gravity. They took good care of their little brother, capturing or deflecting the meteorites the Otsutsuki favored before they even neared the Shinobi World, leaving the Otsutsuki to watch helplessly as those meteorites flew away.
They had the will, but not the power.
It was too difficult.
