After seeing them salute, the other pilot gave them a thumbs-up, then maneuvered the fighter into another half-roll and returned to normal flight. This time, however, the fighter flew directly along the other side of their aircraft.
Before they could even greet him, the two men in the cockpit saw the fighter rapidly accelerate. By the time it passed them, long flames were already trailing from its tail, and it vanished ahead at a terrifying speed.
"What did that mean? Was he thanking us?" Christmas was a little baffled.
"Probably." Barney was equally confused. They truly had no connection with the other side.
"Could the person we rescued have some mysterious background?" Christmas thought of something and turned to look at the wealthy businessman in the cabin again.
Barney had originally been certain that this man had no background whatsoever. Not only that, but the business he did was somewhat illegal—at the very least, it violated that country's laws.
It was not anything seriously illegal, though. Otherwise, the man's family would not have hired them to rescue him. If he had been a legitimate businessman, shouldn't they have sought help from their embassy first?
After all, official forces were far more capable than they were when it came to rescues like this.
"Should we ask Church?" Christmas asked again.
"Forget it. Do you think Church is some kind of good guy? We're only using each other. They need us, and we need their money. That's all. Don't think Church is a good person. Not a single one of those CIA bastards is any good." Barney shook his head.
"Then what about this?"
"Anyway, if they really need something from us, they'll probably come looking for us. Otherwise, we'll continue with the original plan."
"Fine!"
After the two settled on the
