"Wait, I don't understand what you're saying. But you mean what happened to me had something to do with him?" Marta immediately asked.
Both men turned to look at her. To be honest, Jason Bourne saw in Marta the Mary he had taken with him while fleeing all those years ago. But the past had faded like smoke, and everything had changed. Wasn't he now on this path because of Mary's death?
"That's right. It was indeed the case." Jason Bourne admitted it directly. He did not hide anything and told her about some of the things he had done.
After hearing him out, Marta opened her mouth. Just moments ago, she had actually been somewhat angry. Because of Jason Bourne, she had suffered through all of this for no reason. But after listening to him now, she could not bring herself to say such things.
Because she suddenly felt that she had no right to blame him for anything. And as a researcher like herself, did she not also bear some infamy?
The power had certainly produced such consequences because of those who wielded it behind the scenes, but what about people like them, who developed that power?
Many things in this world were inevitably bound by cause and effect, but those causes and effects could never be explained clearly. All one could say was that humanity kept creating history while marching ever farther down the road of self-destruction.
Just as the saying went, half hell and half heaven. Humanity walked the narrow path between them. Which side it would fall toward depended on humanity's own choices.
