From several thousand meters up, they could even land within a circle just twenty centimeters in diameter. Round parachutes were different. They had no controllability whatsoever and simply drifted with the wind. Wherever the wind took you was where you went.
Round-parachute training was used for large-scale airborne troop drops. During mass paratrooper deployments, everyone used round parachutes. Though they could not be controlled, that was actually a good thing. If they could not be controlled, drifting with the wind meant they would not get killed.
But if they could control them, then during a large-scale airborne drop, the sky would be almost full of people. One bad maneuver would be courting death. If parachutes became tangled in midair, there would be no other outcome.
This was definitely far more thrilling than jumping off a building.
