Commander Lin and the others had gone numb from watching. They could not imagine what these things were, especially when they watched helplessly as the grayish-white liquid solidified into sturdy ground in just over a quarter of an hour. Even more terrifyingly, after it hardened, those terrifyingly heavy machines drove straight over it!
They went over to inspect it themselves. The self-formed slope was now solid as a single whole. Commander Lin felt utterly overwhelmed. No wonder they said that after blowing up the Great Wall, they would be responsible for repairing it. At this speed... repairing this section of the Great Wall would not take much time at all.
Once the road was completed, the engineering troops began laying down material on the slopes beside it as well. Never mind anything else—build first, talk later.
Meanwhile, more than a dozen large bulldozers and excavators drove across the road.
Then they got to work on the other side of the Great Wall. Bulldozers shoved all the corpses aside, first clearing a path toward the distant valley. The large craters blasted out by the 155mm howitzers were perfect for pushing the corpses into, using them to fill the holes.
The bulldozers cleared the way in front, while the armored regiment arrived behind them.
This was a Special Armored Regiment. Leading the column were specially modified Type 99 Improved Main Battle Tanks. Their vehicle-mounted machine guns had been replaced with 12.7mm Gatling guns, and they carried ample ammunition.
The tanks' main guns were useful, of course, but not particularly so. Against such a dense flood of enemies, tank cannons were nowhere near as useful as machine guns.
Naturally, the armored regiment could not consist entirely of tanks; there was no use for that many tanks. There were even more tracked Armored Vehicles
