Jiang Yan Hai walked to the door and opened it. Outside stood a captain.
The moment they saw each other, Jiang Yan Hai was about to salute, but the other man had clearly been prepared. He reacted far faster, raising his hand in salute the instant he saw him.
"Hello, Commander!" His voice was crisp and resolute.
Jiang Yan Hai was completely baffled by being called Commander. No, you're a captain at least. Can't you see the rank on my shoulders?
Before Jiang Yan Hai could even complain, the man lowered his hand and spoke. "Commander, my name is Ding Tian. I'm responsible for delivering the full set of equipment and handling the handover. During this period, I will follow any reasonable orders you give."
"Uh, alright. Come in." Jiang Yan Hai paused, then understood. He waved him in and stepped aside from the door.
"Bring the equipment in." Ding Tian immediately waved a hand and turned around.
Only then did Jiang Yan Hai see that eight people were following behind him, carrying four enormous crates.
"Commander, where should we put these? Is this desk area alright?" Ding Tian looked around the room before asking directly.
"That's fine." Jiang Yan Hai nodded.
They immediately began unpacking the crates. Only then did Jiang Yan Hai realize this was a complete personal workstation setup—and an advanced one at that.
The multi-CPU structure, similar to that of a Supercomputer, along with the specialized cooling equipment, made it clear that this was a personal workstation specifically designed for enhanced computing power.
A Supercomputer was more or less made up of cabinets like these combined together, eventually forming a massive computer cluster.
This was different from a server. Many people did not really understand the difference between servers and personal computers, assuming that servers had extremely powerful performance. That was not actually the case; servers prioritized stability.
Especially stability during long-term operation, as well as data expansion capability. Sometimes, a small server's computing power could be far inferior to that of a personal computer costing over ten thousand yuan.
However, in data retrieval, storage, and stability, servers possessed absolute advantages.
What Jiang Yan Hai had in front of him was not configured as a server, but more like an enhanced personal computer.
In truth, Jiang Yan Hai only needed a laptop. The Electronic Warfare Support Program of the Red Star Engine was responsible for computing power anyway.
Of course, he could not tell anyone else that.
"Commander, this entire system will be connected to the high-speed military network. If you need to access external networks, special hardware gateways and a hardware Firewall will protect your security. External network access will also be registered under a semi-military research organization, but please remain mindful of security."
"Second, the entire system uses the Galaxy Kylin System. If there is anything you do not understand about using it, you may contact us."
"Third, you may begin your assignment after your leave ends. You may take as long as necessary to complete it, but if you need to transfer targets before completion, we hope you will inform us."
"Fourth, this system contains a program that monitors its operating status. Please do not disable it. For the security of the data, these checks are necessary. We ask for your understanding."
"Fifth, if you have any other requirements, notify me directly and I will arrange them immediately." Ding Tian listed the five points with a solemn expression.
"Nothing else. This will do. Forget the leave—I don't have anywhere to go anyway. I'll submit the relevant materials as soon as possible." Jiang Yan Hai smiled and replied noncommittally.
"Yes! I'll be outside. If anything comes up, you can call for me." Ding Tian gave a military salute and turned to leave without another word.
Jiang Yan Hai did not mind. Setting aside the fact that Ding Tian outranked him, Ding Tian clearly came from a special department and handled different kinds of work.
The computer had already been installed. Jiang Yan Hai walked over and powered it on. It was somewhat noisy, after all, it had a separate cabinet-style independent cooling system.
After entering the system, Jiang Yan Hai immediately began operating the computer at high speed.
The entire system differed from Windows. Though it was said to have been independently developed, it had in fact borrowed principles from another foreign open-source system. None of that mattered, however.
The laptop he had used before had also been delivered. Jiang Yan Hai directly copied the program from that laptop onto this machine.
He had written this program for the first time before refining it several times. Its overall functionality was quite good.
After using the program to scan the entire system, Jiang Yan Hai smiled faintly.
The remote program Ding Tian had mentioned for monitoring the whole system did indeed exist. Jiang Yan Hai was certain that they were probably watching everything he did remotely.
But Jiang Yan Hai did not care. He was going to hand these things over anyway, so it made no difference whether others saw them. What interested him now was the system itself.
This system actually shared the same origins as the military's system, though it had slight differences in customization.
At that moment, hundreds of kilometers away, inside a special computer room at the Emergency Response Center, seven or eight people ranging from their twenties to thirties were watching Jiang Yan Hai's computer through a remote program—or rather, openly observing it.
Among them, three had once been key programmers involved in the development of the entire military system.
Their own system had been exposed as having a massive vulnerability, and it was even the system used by the military. How could the higher-ups not take such a major security issue seriously?
These three could be considered among the developers of the entire system. The other developers had projects of their own and could not come here, but they would certainly be watching remotely.
"This is the recruit you were talking about?" One of the men in his thirties stared at Jiang Yan Hai's desktop on the screen and asked.
Beside him, a major said helplessly, "Yes."
If Jiang Yan Hai had been there, he would have recognized this major. He was the major from the Strategic Command Center who had been in charge of Information Warfare.
"Could it be that your technical skills are just too poor?" The man in his thirties straightened up, glanced at the major, and asked.
"Lu Zhou, I advise you to be careful. Don't end up capsizing in a ditch. You're underestimating him too much."
The major was somewhat frustrated. He admitted that the man before him was indeed extremely skilled, but wasn't the young man operating the computer on the other end of that screen just as absurdly capable?
"I'd rather believe your technical skills are too poor." The man called Lu Zhou turned back and stared at the computer.
