Gong Jian took a deep look at Jiang Yan Hai. He had been watching Jiang Yan Hai the entire time and could tell that Jiang Yan Hai's movements were incredibly proficient, as if he were a veteran who had disassembled and reassembled countless firearms, not a rookie. But that was impossible.
Could this be talent? At this moment, Gong Jian couldn't help but wonder if the gap between people could really be this vast. After all, he, Gong Jian, considered himself a genius.
Yet, he couldn't disassemble firearms with the same proficiency as Jiang Yan Hai. This foundational skill was astounding.
If it weren't for everyone present witnessing it firsthand, Gong Jian himself wouldn't have believed it.
But now, no one doubted anymore. Those who had previously mocked Jiang Yan Hai suddenly found themselves holding their breath, unsure of what to say.
The soldiers who had come out to participate in the assessment with Jiang Yan Hai now wore serious expressions. No one looked down on Jiang Yan Hai anymore.
Once everyone had finished, Gong Jian spoke directly, "Next is the second assessment, which is still assembling firearms. However, this time, you will assemble an assault rifle from dozens of parts at the fastest possible speed."
As Gong Jian finished speaking, eleven soldiers walked over. Each carried a large camouflage duffel bag, one for each participant. They approached them and, with a synchronized "swish," unzipped the bags. Then, with a "crash," a pile of firearm parts was dumped in front of each person.
It was truly a pile. Because the disassembly was incomplete, the moment the parts fell, Jiang Yan Hai saw the main barrel assemblies of at least three types of rifles, and there were pistol components mixed in as well.
It had to be said that this was where Jiang Yan Hai's powerful brain advantage truly showed. The instant the parts fell, Jiang Yan Hai had already mentally cataloged them.
This wasn't the Red Star Auxiliary Engine's doing; it was something Jiang Yan Hai's own brain could accomplish.
Furthermore, with the Special Forces Experience Card he was currently using, he was familiar with dozens of weapons, and the appearance of their components was deeply ingrained in his memory.
In less than two seconds, Jiang Yan Hai had mentally completed the assembly of these firearms.
This was beyond what the Special Forces Experience Card alone could achieve. The moment he finished mentally assembling them, Jiang Yan Hai acted. His left hand accurately grabbed the barrel assembly of an assault rifle from the pile of parts, while his right hand had already seized the next component to be installed.
The other soldiers, however, were clearly not on the same level. The moment the parts were dumped, they all looked somewhat stunned. While they did practice similar drills, it was at most with the parts of two or three guns mixed together. Now, there were enough parts to assemble two or three different firearms, not to mention many extraneous pieces.
Crisp assembly sounds rang out. As the other soldiers were just snapping out of their daze and preparing to start, Jiang Yan Hai had already assembled two parts.
Because of his previous performance, most of the observing soldiers were now watching Jiang Yan Hai. At this moment, everyone clearly saw that Jiang Yan Hai seemed to have no hesitation while assembling the firearms. His eyes didn't even linger on the parts.
After assembling one part, his hand would accurately reach for the location of the next part.
Everyone watched in awe, as if the pile of parts in front of Jiang Yan Hai was simply the components of a Type 95 Rifle.
Finding the parts was something they could do, but doing so without distraction was absolutely impossible. Yet, for Jiang Yan Hai, there was no distraction!
From the moment the parts were dumped, perhaps only a dozen seconds passed. With a final "click" as the magazine was inserted, an assault rifle was fully assembled.
And Jiang Yan Hai wasn't finished. Almost as soon as he put down the rifle, his hand reached for the barrel assembly of another weapon, a sniper rifle, and he began assembling it once more.
The scene from before replayed. The crisp "click" and "clack" rhythm filled the air. As the sniper rifle was assembled, everyone felt that the process was even faster!
With another "click" as the magazine was inserted, the second weapon was neatly placed beside the assault rifle. At this point, it had likely been less than 30 seconds, and the soldiers next to him hadn't even finished assembling one assault rifle! The difference was stark!
But Jiang Yan Hai's hand had already moved to the next barrel assembly, this time for the standard-issue pistol currently equipped by the army. Assembling a pistol was even simpler, and in just a few seconds, Jiang Yan Hai completed its assembly.
Only now did he see that another soldier beside him was nearing completion.
Jiang Yan Hai shouted loudly, "Report, complete!"
After speaking, Jiang Yan Hai stood with his hands behind his back and his feet shoulder-width apart.
"38 seconds!" Gong Jian announced the time!
Although Gong Jian's face showed no outward reaction, he was inwardly immensely shocked. This was because, from start to finish, Jiang Yan Hai hadn't seemed to think at all, as if the pile of parts only contained the components for these three guns.
An assault rifle, a sniper rifle, and a pistol – a total assembly time of 38 seconds. This time, let alone mixed assembly like this, even if the parts were neatly laid out, most of the soldiers present couldn't achieve it!
At this point, no one doubted Jiang Yan Hai's capabilities. See, breaking through doubt was this simple.
Although the other ten soldiers participating in the assessment gradually completed their tasks, the gap was too immense.
"Uh, this isn't part of the assessment, but I have to ask, Jiang Yan Hai, how did you do that? I watched the entire assembly process, and you didn't pick up a single wrong part. It was as if you knew exactly where each part was placed," Gong Jian couldn't suppress his curiosity and asked directly.
It wasn't just Gong Jian; the other soldiers were filled with curiosity. Everyone had been watching, and cheating was out of the question.
With a large bag of firearm parts dumped onto the table with a "crash," everyone was essentially starting from the same point. If the parts had been prepared and placed there beforehand, cheating might have been possible, but like this, it was impossible.
The ten soldiers who were assessed together also turned their gaze towards Jiang Yan Hai. They clearly wanted to know how Jiang Yan Hai had managed it, especially since he was just a raw recruit!
There were definitely people in the army who could achieve this, perhaps even faster than Jiang Yan Hai, but they believed that what Jiang Yan Hai had accomplished was already close to the army's record, which was truly astonishing.
