It was evening in the Amon Mountains, and a cool breeze swept through. The villagers, instead of heading home after a day of labor, gathered to discuss the events of the past few days.
"Their team didn't get as much done as us. We finished leveling the land today, and they still have a small section left."
"Isn't that thanks to you, Uncle? Butler Abel even praised your leadership today. Looks like we picked the right captain."
"Absolutely! And Butler Abel said that starting tomorrow, everyone will get Copper Be and provisions at the end of each day. So, you all better work hard, understand?"
"Every day? Captain, is that true? I've never even seen a Copper Be in my life. My mom hides all the money away, says it's for my wedding."
Abel was very pleased with the progress. After splitting into smaller teams, work efficiency had greatly improved. It looked like the Manor could be completed in less than a month. Then he could move in first and wouldn't have to crowd into Chief Colin's house anymore. Always staying at Colin's place was unbecoming for a noble, and while Young Master Nord didn't care, as a butler, he had to consider it.
Abel turned his gaze towards the mountains. Young Master Nord was probably on his way back soon. So, Abel and Colin discussed handling the large wild boar that had been left further away first, then going to Colin's house to have Molly prepare dinner.
Just as Abel was about to instruct the villagers, a group of figures appeared from the distant forest. Leading them was Nord, clad in Heraldic Armor. Seeing the happy expression on Nord's face and the wild boars slung over everyone's shoulders, it seemed they had a good haul today.
"The great king told me to patrol the mountains..." Nord hummed an unfamiliar tune as he lightly walked out of the forest. He hadn't expected the villagers to still be gathered at the construction site in the distance, so he led his group forward.
"My goodness, three more wild boars, and they're all alive! Is it this easy to catch prey in the mountains now?"
"I told you Master Nord is amazing. He just entered the mountains and already has such a big harvest."
Seeing the bountiful harvest of those returning from the mountains, the villagers who had remained gathered were buzzing with discussions. Some found it unbelievable; the nearby forests had been scoured, so how could there be such a big catch?
Nord walked directly up to Abel and Colin, briefly discussing the situation in the mountains with them, and then asked about the Manor's construction.
"Today's progress was very smooth. After dividing the work, there's a sense of competition among everyone. Especially after Master Nord sent back a large wild boar, the villagers' enthusiasm for work has increased even more. They all say that following Master Nord will lead to a good life."
"If we maintain the current pace, the Manor might be completed ahead of schedule."
Nord nodded, thinking about his fruitful day and his good mood. Thus, he decided to implement the work rewards earlier than planned.
"Since the villagers are so enthusiastic, we can start giving some rewards to outstanding teams every day. There's no need to punish underperforming teams. For now, let's give out some boar meat as a reward. Such a large wild boar can't be eaten all at once anyway, so why not give it to the villagers as a reward?"
Nord looked at the large wild boar lying on the ground, and the sow and piglets carried on the hunters' shoulders. Indeed, it's better for a whole family to be together...
The remaining sow and piglets should be kept for now. For future development, immediate desires could be suppressed. Having temporarily decided on the rewards, Nord and his party grandly made their way towards Colin's small courtyard.
In the courtyard, Molly and the siblings Art had been waiting for a long time. The two little ones hid behind their mother, peeking out with their small heads, their eyes filled with fear as they watched the wild boar being carried into the yard, yet unable to resist their curiosity, they couldn't help but look at them.
Back in the courtyard, Nord instructed Marco and the guards to gather in the square in front of Colin's courtyard tomorrow, as he had important announcements to make. Then he told each of them to take five catties of boar meat home.
"Abel, guess what I found in the forest?"
"Young Master Nord, did you find anything else in the forest today besides this group of wild boars?"
Nord pointed to the inconspicuous Yam piled up next to the courtyard. Abel walked closer and looked, finding it somewhat familiar but unable to identify it.
Nord was a bit stunned by Abel's reaction. From Abel's demeanor and speech, the System had instilled in him not only knowledge of this world but also some modern common sense, like cooking. Abel's cooking style was more in line with modern tastes. But now it seemed Abel might have a rather vague understanding of modern knowledge, possibly lacking subjective judgment, somewhat like an artificial idiot... an artificial intelligence. Otherwise, how could he not even recognize a potato?
However, Abel was not like an emotionless robot. Nord could feel Abel's emotions and his concern for him. He handled interactions with people and dealt with matters without any stiffness. It seemed the character assigned by the System was not so simple.
"I call this Yam. These are far more important than today's wild boars. By the way, can you make stewed pork with Yam?"
"Oh, so this is Yam! I remember now. No problem, please wait a moment."
Abel had a look of sudden realization, then excused himself to Nord, heading to the kitchen to prepare food. Meanwhile, Reed, hearing their conversation, his eyes darted as if he remembered something, and he walked over to Molly, describing to her how incredibly delicious the Yam Master Nord roasted in the mountains today was.
Nord returned to his room first, lying on the bed to organize his thoughts. Today's gains were quite significant: Yam, wild boars, hunting experience. Oh, right, Ryman should be ready for an upgrade.
[Name: Ryman] [Profession: Amon Hunter LV3 (1200/300)] [Attributes: Strength 14 Agility 9 (12) Intelligence 9 Charisma 8] [Weapon Proficiency: One-handed Weapons 120 Two-handed Weapons 98 Bows 140] [Promotable Professions: Amon Veteran Hunter, Amon Warrior]
As expected, Ryman was ready for promotion. According to his previous thoughts, Ryman definitely needed to become a melee fighter, so the only choice was Amon Warrior. Without further hesitation, he promoted him directly.
[Name: Ryman] [Profession: Amon Warrior LV1 (900/1000)] [Attributes: Strength 14 (20) Agility 9 (16) Intelligence 9 Charisma 8] [Weapon Proficiency: One-handed Weapons 120 (150) Two-handed Weapons 98 (200) Bows 140]
As anticipated, Amon Warrior was a melee profession, and it seemed to specialize in two-handed weapons, which seemed to suit Ryman's characteristics. He clicked on the Amon Warrior unit information.
