"Feng Qi?"
"Didn't Third Young Master severely injure him yesterday? How can he still walk?"
"Not only that, his voice is full of strength. He doesn't look injured at all."
"Could he have been faking it?"
"Impossible. I personally examined his injuries. He only had one breath left at the time. Physician Hu didn't even leave him any medicine. I could be wrong, but Physician Hu couldn't possibly be wrong..."
Listening to the surrounding discussion,
Dug couldn't help clicking his tongue. What kind of humanity was this? No wonder he had been so badly injured and hadn't even received a bowl of medicine. They had really left him there to die...
The Feng Family was utterly despicable. Were sparring partners not people too?
Who would still risk their life for them if they acted like this?
This evil feudal society...
Unfortunately,
the restrictions on players possessing others were too stringent. Otherwise, possessing one of those young noblemen on the martial stage would have made the opening far easier.
It wasn't surprising to reach that conclusion. Feng Jiu had said that the more than eighteen hundred people who vanished at the start had been eliminated because their attempts at possession failed.
And both he and Feng Jiu had coincidentally chosen severely injured people to possess. That probably wasn't a coincidence. Possessing the old, weak, sick, and disabled was likely much easier...
"Feng Qi?" Third Young Master Feng Yunjie looked at Dug beneath the stage, his face full of surprise.
Feng Shiyi was more direct. He leaped down beside Dug and grabbed for his pulse.
Dug instinctively dodged, but Feng Shiyi's hand seemed to have anticipated his movement. With a slight turn of his wrist, he easily caught Dug's wrist.
Dug's heart trembled. So fast. As expected of a wuxia world...
With his wrist seized, Dug did not resist. Smiling, he allowed Feng Shiyi to examine his meridians.
Something was clearly abnormal.
He did not believe the Feng Family would kill him before investigating the matter thoroughly.
A moment later,
Feng Shiyi released Dug's wrist. Looking at his face, he frowned slightly and asked, "Feng Qi, your injuries?"
"Reporting to Second Master, they have already healed." Dug smiled.
Feng Shiyi looked at Dug's face again. "Is the urgent matter you mentioned related to your injuries suddenly healing?"
"Yes." Dug nodded. "I ask Second Master to keep everyone in the courtyard under control. Don't let them move around recklessly, lest word gets out."
Feng Shiyi was decisive as well. Turning around, he ordered, "Zhang Han, Liu Jing, you two guard the Training Ground. Without my order, no one is allowed to move about freely."
"Yes." The two direct disciples of the Feng Family answered.
The others whispered among themselves, their gazes toward Dug growing increasingly strange.
"Come, let's discuss this inside. Please. Yunjie, you come too." Feng Shiyi glanced at Dug's face once more and gestured for him to proceed, no longer treating him as a mere sparring partner.
Feng Yunjie nodded and took the lead.
With the two men sandwiching him front and back, Dug entered the reception hall beside the Training Ground.
The moment they entered the reception hall,
Feng Shiyi suddenly reached out and rapidly tapped several points on Dug's back.
Dug stiffened. A wave of soreness and numbness spread through his body, freezing him in place.
He tried to move his legs, but they seemed no longer to belong to him. His mind could sense their existence, and he sent out the command, yet they did not move at all.
The same went for his arms.
Was this acupoint sealing?
Amazing!
Dug marveled inwardly.
Having subdued Dug with ease, Feng Shiyi seemed somewhat surprised. He walked around to face Dug and asked coldly, "Who are you? What is your purpose in coming to my Feng Family?"
Feng Yunjie sneered. "Your disguise technique is indeed impressive, but you're rather stupid. Of all people to impersonate, you chose a gravely injured servant on the verge of death..."
As he spoke, he reached out and grabbed Dug's face.
Several bloody scratches appeared, but Dug's face did not change in the slightest. There was no human-skin mask, nor any disguise medicine.
Feng Yunjie froze. He examined Dug's face closely and said in astonishment, "It's actually real."
"I examined him earlier. There were no traces of disguise." Feng Shiyi shook his head, staring directly at Dug. "But you are definitely not Feng Qi. Who exactly are you?"
"I am Feng Qi, yet I am also not Feng Qi." Dug smiled, wholly unconcerned with the pain in his face. "Second Master, have you heard of possession?"
"Possession?" The Feng uncle and nephew spoke in unison.
"Ghost stories are nothing but tricks used by wandering swindlers. How could there possibly be ghosts possessing people in this world?" Feng Yunjie snorted.
"Third Young Master, just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Otherwise, how do you explain me inside Feng Qi?" Even with his acupoints sealed and blood freely running down his face, Dug still smiled, maintaining a powerful psychological advantage.
"Yunjie, listen to him," Feng Shiyi said.
"Words alone prove nothing. Why don't I take you to witness it first?" Dug smiled. "You needn't worry about me escaping. Though I possessed Feng Qi, I do not have his Martial Arts memories. You can subdue me whenever you wish."
Feng Shiyi glanced at Dug and tapped several points on his body, releasing his acupoints.
"If I discover that you are putting on some ghostly act, you will suffer for it," Feng Yunjie threatened.
"Where are we going?" Feng Shiyi asked.
"Get some food. I'll take you to witness a miracle." Dug stretched his sore, numb limbs and unhesitatingly Backstabbed Feng Jiu.
He had tested the effects of Maintenance, so naturally, it was time to test Backstab. The ideal target for a backstab was, of course, a partner.
Backstab was also a Keyword. When used correctly, it likewise possessed restorative abilities.
The moment he finished speaking, the wounds Feng Yunjie had scratched into Dug's face scabbed over and healed within minutes. He wiped his face, and the bloody scabs fell away, leaving it completely restored.
Seeing this, the Feng uncle and nephew both froze. They looked at Dug as though he truly were some ghostly monster, and the suspicion in their hearts immediately diminished by several degrees.
Feng Yunjie especially knew how much force he had used. No wound medicine in the martial world could possibly have such miraculous effects. Aside from ghosts and gods, there seemed to be no other explanation for such healing ability.
Feng Yunjie studied Dug's face and asked in horror, "You... you truly were possessed by a ghost or god?"
"What else could it be?" Dug smiled faintly. "Don't worry. My mission is to protect. I will not harm you."
"What does protection mean?" Feng Shiyi asked.
"Bring food and witness the next miracle. Then I'll explain it to you. That will make it easier for you to understand." Dug said, "In short, all you need to know is that everything I do concerns the future fate of the Feng Family..."
The Feng uncle and nephew exchanged a glance.
Feng Yunjie picked up a plate of tea snacks from the table and asked, "Is this enough?"
"It will do." Dug nodded and turned toward the door.
The Feng uncle and nephew followed closely behind. Both remained vigilant, their expressions grave.
The three soon arrived at the Martial Arts Cultivation Courtyard.
Dug said, "What you are about to see may overturn everything you know about the world. Speak less and watch more. I will explain afterward."
The Feng uncle and nephew nodded.
"Wait a moment before coming in," Dug instructed. Taking the tea snacks from Feng Yunjie, he hurried a few steps into his room. "Ninth Brother, I brought food back for you."
"Why did you take so long?" Feng Jiu pressed the tattered straw mat beneath him, his eyes fixed on the tea snacks in Dug's hand. He swallowed. "Quick, give me a few bites. I can barely hold on. Once my body recovers, we'll escape this damned Feng Family together."
Dug smilingly handed over the tea snacks. Feng Jiu took them and stuffed them into his mouth ravenously. But after just two bites, he suddenly froze and stared straight at the doorway.
Two figures at the door blocked out the light.
The Feng uncle and nephew stared without blinking at Feng Jiu devouring the food on the bed, watching his injuries rapidly recover. How could they not understand the miracle Dug had brought them to see? "Feng Qi, you sold me out?" Feng Jiu trembled all over as he looked at Dug, his face filled with vicious fury. He roared, "Your Keyword is Maintenance. Aren't you afraid your attributes will weaken if you betray the person you maintain?"
So acting against one's Keyword would weaken one's attributes! Dug gained another crucial piece of information, but he did not care in the slightest. The instant the Feng uncle and nephew appeared, he had acquired an advanced skill: Eyes Behind the Head: A person who Backstabs others cannot be Backstabbed by others. You possess vision behind you.
The moment he gained the skill, Dug clearly saw the stern-faced Feng uncle and nephew behind him without even turning around. It was a natural sort of vision, as if he had been born able to see in all directions, with not the slightest sense of incongruity.
With this skill, no one in the world could ever ambush him from behind again!
Feeling the pleasure brought by Backstab, Dug did not care that the furious Feng Jiu had exposed his Keyword. Smiling, he tried to patch things up. "Ninth Brother, I have not acted against my own words. My current identity is a sparring partner of the Feng Family, and everything I do is to protect the Feng Family's interests. Besides, I have not betrayed you either. I merely used facts to make you turn back from the wrong path. The martial world is vast, and wandering alone is too dangerous. Only by relying on a great tree like the Feng Family can we enjoy its shade!"
"Feng Qi, you will pay for what you have done." Feng Jiu looked toward the silent uncle and nephew by the door. "Didn't your teacher tell you the consequences of exposing yourself in a native world?"
My teacher really didn't tell me the consequences.
Dug muttered inwardly, then sighed. "Ninth Brother, my teacher only told me to adapt to circumstances."
Feng Jiu snorted. "Idiot."
"Ninth Brother, eat! Eat more and recover faster. Help the Feng Family with me, make the Feng Family prosper, and only then can we possibly obtain the greatest benefits." Dug stood with his back to the Feng uncle and nephew, looking earnestly at Feng Jiu. "If it were just me helping you wander the world, with us penniless, what good food could you eat? But relying on a family is different. Once you gain the Feng Family's trust, you can eat whatever you want. That way, you can grow faster, can't you?"
Feng Jiu paused and looked at the Feng uncle and nephew.
Feng Shiyi still did not understand exactly what had happened, but he was a clever man. He immediately stated his position. "Feng Jiu, I can guarantee that we will not harm you. We can cooperate."
"Fine. I hope you keep your word." Feng Jiu pondered for a moment, seeming to accept his fate, then continued stuffing the tea snacks into his mouth as he mumbled.
Watching Feng Jiu's injuries recover faster and faster, how could the Feng uncle and nephew still doubt that Dug had spoken the truth? They exchanged a glance, excitement gradually appearing in their eyes.
Feng Yunjie asked, "Feng Qi, can you explain now?"
"Of course. But before I explain, you need to restrain Feng Jiu first. I don't know how quickly he can recover, but he wanted to escape the Feng Family earlier. We must prepare for any possibility." Dug nodded, Backstabbing Feng Jiu right to his face as if he had not been the one just trying to persuade him.
The pastry in Feng Jiu's mouth sprayed everywhere. He glared at Dug and roared, "Feng Qi, you fucking..."
Compared with Feng Jiu, Feng Shiyi trusted Dug more. After all, he possessed the Sacrifice for Righteousness skill, which naturally reduced the vigilance of those he protected by thirty percent.
Therefore, without hesitation, he flashed forward and tapped Feng Jiu twice in the chest, sealing his acupoints.
