On Monday morning, Aaron went to work at the hospital as usual.
The hospital where he worked was large. Besides its various facilities, it had a plaza where patients could relax, complete with greenery.
Before something happened to Velma, Aaron had always admired the scenery and greeted patients he knew as he crossed the plaza on his way to work.
Now his worry for Velma left him in no mood for that. He hurried across the plaza, only to be stopped halfway by an urgent female voice.
"Doctor Aaron!"
Aaron turned. Selina, her long burgundy hair swaying, was struggling to wheel herself toward him. She clearly wasn't adept with the wheelchair; it rocked from side to side as she moved. Aaron frowned.
Professional instinct took over. He stepped forward to push her wheelchair and asked,
"Did you need something from me?"
It was the only explanation he could think of.
Selina nodded quickly, then looked around. Finding it relatively quiet, she lowered her voice.
"Doctor Aaron, a couple of days ago, on Friday..."
After two days of deliberation, Selina had finally decided to tell Aaron about Velma's strange behavior.
She recounted what had happened that day, then quietly added,
"Doctor Aaron, you'd better keep a closer eye on Velma lately..."
Aaron said nothing. He remained silent as he pushed Selina into the inpatient building. Glancing at the stairs, he said in a voice that betrayed no emotion,
"I'll find an orderly to take you back to your room."
Selina instinctively looked back to read his expression, but his face revealed almost nothing. He simply looked at her for a moment, then turned to fetch an orderly.
Selina opened her mouth, but couldn't think of anything to say. She sat there in a daze until an orderly carried her upstairs.
