Chapter Summaries

Alice and Klein discussed the strange incidents at Dwayne Dantès’s ball and suspected Hazel Macht might be connected to Will Auceptin’s birth. Klein asked Arrodes to investigate, learning Hazel was not pregnant yet but would become entangled in a High-Sequence conflict because of Alice’s earlier curse.

• Alice recognized that the wealthy man in the newspaper was Klein’s Dwayne Dantès identity, and Klein confirmed it was him.
• Klein told Alice that Hazel Macht had fainted at the ball and Winfred Grigory had bled from her eyes after seeing something near Hazel.

• Alice discovered that her coin had stood on its edge before rolling into a gap in the floor, and decided to ask Miss Justice to investigate Winfred.
• Alice woke Klein at four in the morning and told him the captain was marrying Madam Daly, giving him Leonard’s invitation.
• Alice asked Klein to have Miss Justice find out what Winfred had seen, then sensed Evernight’s veil and urged Klein to look at the Red Moon only if he was in danger.
