The Soto Great Soul Arena was far larger than anyone could have imagined. Not only did it have over a hundred Soul Battle Stages for matches, but it also had several betting tables.
Soul betting meant placing bets before each match on the Soul Masters one believed would win. Some people became rich overnight here, while others lost everything.
The betting tables were large counters where anyone with money could try their luck. The odds included one-to-one, one-to-two, and one-to-ten. For underdog matches, the highest limit was one-to-twenty, while more popular matches could go as high as one-to-fifty. Of course, for exceptionally popular matches, the odds could reach several hundred or even over a thousand to one.
Ye Buqun and Doudou signed up for a two-versus-two match. Before the match began, Ye Buqun took the girl to place a bet at one of the betting tables.
But Doudou, who was participating in a match for the first time, was somewhat nervous. "Um... can you guarantee that we'll win?"
She did not mean that she doubted Ye Buqun. This was, after all, a two-versus-two match, and she was afraid she would hold him back.
Ye Buqun patted her shoulder. "Don't worry. I've got everything covered."
The betting table staff member stood up with a smile. "Assistant Manager Doudou, I really didn't expect you to compete in Soul Battles. Who are you betting on this time?"
Before Doudou could speak, Ye Buqun said, "We're betting on the Ye-Doudou Duo. Ten thousand Gold Soul Coins, at one-to-one hundred odds."
The staff member checked the day's match roster, then maintained his smile as he said, "I'm terribly sorry, but the maximum wager for this match is only one thousand Gold Soul Coins, with a limit of one-to-twenty odds."
"Then I'll bet that," Ye Buqun said. "If we win, that'll be twenty thousand Gold Soul Coins, right?"
The staff member kept smiling, but there seemed to be a trace of contempt in it now. "Mr. Ye, I know you won your matches and just achieved two consecutive victories, but I must remind you that even contestants with more than five consecutive wins can lose midway through. Also, your two opponents this time are seasoned experts of the Soul Arena, so please be cautious."
The staff member's meaning was already perfectly clear: they had no chance of winning.
If Doudou had not been a minor official at the Soul Arena, the staff member's words would likely have been much harsher.
"Then I must remind you as well that this is my money. Whether I bet it or not is my freedom. Please place the bet." Ye Buqun was not polite either, taking out one thousand Gold Soul Coins and pushing them over.
The staff member's smile became even more contemptuous as he handed him the betting slip.
With that, the two headed toward their assigned match location.
Watching their backs, the staff member shook his head and muttered, "Heh, they're newcomers after all. They haven't taken a hard fall yet. If you lose this match, you'll have to pay the Soul Arena twenty thousand Gold Soul Coins. No, I should say that money is as good as lost."
On the way to the match venue, Doudou asked Ye Buqun, "Don't you think our odds are a little too high?"
"I think they're too low," Ye Buqun said. "If it weren't for that maximum limit, I'd have wanted to bet at one-to-one hundred odds. Once we win the money, we'll split it evenly."
Upon hearing that, Doudou quickly waved her hands. "How could that work? You paid all the money. How could I take a share?"
"Isn't this our match? Never mind that for now. Put this on." As Ye Buqun spoke, he took out a Clown Mask identical to his own and handed it to her.
Doudou immediately understood and put it on.
Although Doudou worked at the Soul Arena, few people outside recognized her. Wearing a mask would better conceal her identity.
The wait for two-versus-two matches seemed to be longer than for one-versus-one matches. The two waited in the lounge for a while longer before heading to their designated Soul Battle Stage.
Soul Battle Stage Number Thirty-Five.
There seemed to be even more spectators than before. Of the stands that could hold several thousand people, nearly a thousand seats were occupied.
Could it be that two-versus-two matches were more popular than one-versus-one matches?
That was not actually the case. Since Doudou worked for the Soul Arena, the Ye-Doudou Duo was considered to be competing on behalf of the arena. With that as a selling point, there were naturally more spectators.
"—The second match on Soul Battle Stage Number Thirty-Five begins now: the Ye-Doudou Duo versus the Iron Arm Duo!"
When the crowd heard the name Ye-Doudou Duo, their first impression was that it sounded adorable, as if it had no combat strength at all.
Compared to them, however, their opponents were a completely different matter.
Clearly, the Iron Arm Duo consisted of Strength-type Soul Masters. Both were fat-faced and broad-eared, with leopard-like heads and round eyes. They looked to be around seventeen or eighteen, and if there was no mistake, they should have been twins. Their bodies were not only fat, but also just as sturdy as the Li Dali Ye Buqun had encountered before. Their thick, exposed arms further displayed their strength.
Seeing that their opponents were actually children, with one of them being a curvaceous girl, the Iron Arm Duo could not help revealing contemptuous expressions. They felt this match was already in the bag.
What they did not know was that their opponents were thinking exactly the same thing.
The contempt had yet to fade from the twin brothers' faces, but strangely, instead of advancing, they both stepped back. As if they had discussed it beforehand, they retreated in perfect unison.
Dark halos bloomed from their palms almost simultaneously, and identical weapons appeared in their hands. Two yellow Soul Rings rose beneath them as well.
They were large, dark war hammers with long handles and heavy heads. Compared to the Clear Sky Hammer, these hammers looked far more plain and ancient.
"Fat Dragon, War Hammer Martial Soul, level twenty-nine, two-ring Strength-type Tool Soul Master!"
"Strong Tiger, War Hammer Martial Soul, level twenty-eight, two-ring Strength-type Tool Soul Master!"
The two spoke in unison. "Please enlighten us!"
They released their Martial Souls and Soul Rings before even making a move. These two seemed intent on ending the battle quickly.
Though Tool Soul Masters did not alter their appearance like Beast Soul Masters, the final shout from these two burly men was still imposing. They nearly charged forward at the same time, their matching strides rumbling like thunder.
Following their plan, Doudou was the first to activate her Martial Soul, rising into the air.
"Wow, that girl is actually a Flight-type Soul Master!"
"She's got a great figure. I really want to take off her mask and see what she looks like."
When Doudou released her Martial Soul, some of the men in the stands could not help discussing her.
Facing the two charging opponents, Ye Buqun remained motionless. Two yellow Soul Rings rose beneath his feet, and his second Soul Ring lit up and began spinning at high speed.
