"Human?"
The white-haired old man frowned and looked at the Lizard Officer before him.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, Sage. At the very least, that's what he claimed."
The Lizard Officer lowered his head and answered in a low voice. After hearing his report, the old man furrowed his brow and fell silent in thought.
The white-haired elder before him was one of the last remaining humans in the world—or rather, he had once been human.
His name was Swann Kandel. He had once been one of humanity's heroes and had died fighting the Earth Gods. Before his death, however, he had used a secret art to curse himself, allowing him to return as one of the dead. Later, amid the nightmarish calamity of the beast tide, Swann and Duke Black Candle had created the floating islands to escape the disaster.

To be honest, rationally speaking, Swann absolutely did not believe it. Five hundred years had passed since then. Humanity had long since gone extinct, and the heroes from the legends who had once fought the Three Earth Gods had all died out. So when he heard the Lizard Officer's report, Swann's first thought was that someone was trying to impersonate a hero.
After all, although humans had gone extinct in this world, there were still featureless species similar to humans—species without obvious animal traits. Ogres, for example, were one such race. They were tall and powerfully built, yet looked no different
