In the mine, disbelief showed on the faces of both the boy and the girl.
They were actually still alive!
Zi Di was the first to get up. She saw the footprints on the ground. Every time the fierce monster in the cave stepped down, it left a shallow crater in the floor.
Its size and might were immediately apparent.
The fact that it had not stepped on the boy and girl was an incredible stroke of luck.
"My lord!" Zi Di tried to help Zhen Jin up.
But Zhen Jin's weight, combined with his armor, was not something a frail mage like Zi Di could easily move.
In the end, Zi Di could only drag Zhen Jin a short distance, letting the boy lean halfway against the cave wall.
Zhen Jin was in terrible condition.
When Zi Di touched him, she discovered that his body was scorching hot, practically like the strange ore in the Mountain Cave.
The potion's effects had faded, and the foul stench coming from Zhen Jin seemed even stronger than before, nearly suffocating Zi Di.
Zhen Jin spoke weakly. "Go, Zi Di. Leave this place."
He could not even shake his head now. The slightest movement of it might cause him to pass out completely.
Zhen Jin raised his hand and looked at his arm. Several phantom arms appeared in his vision.
His skin had become red and swollen, as though his whole body had expanded, and his temperature was extremely high.
Even his eyelids had begun to swell, severely affecting his vision.
When Zi Di noticed this, it was as if she had fallen into a sea of despair and was on the verge of drowning.
She knew how dangerous Fire Poison was.
Members of the Exploration Team had once died from Fire Poison.
Before dying, those unfortunate people had suffered terrible torment. When they died, their eyes had swollen so badly that not even a slit remained.
Their throats and nasal passages had also swelled severely, making breathing extremely difficult.
The cause of death was suffocation!
Zhen Jin was a Silver-level lifeform, yet even he could not withstand Fire Poison.
Too much Fire Poison had accumulated inside him.
The ferocity of the Fire Poison Bees was truly terrifying.
Faced with Zhen Jin driving her away again, Zi Di shook her head. "I won't go. I won't give up. My lord, I can make potions. I'll definitely be able to make the right one! We still have hope. Please, don't give up either!"
Zhen Jin's vision began to blur, as if thick glue were sticking his eyelids to his eyeballs. No matter how hard he tried, he could not open his eyes wide.
Through his blurred vision, he saw Zi Di crying as she sat directly on the ground and pulled out bottle after bottle of potion from the delicate little leather bag at her waist.
She poured potions onto the ground, quickly corroding a small round pit into it.
Then she began brewing a potion, mixing several bottles together. She took many kinds of dried leaves and roots from her robe, ground them into powder, and poured them into the round pit.
Gurgle, gurgle...
The mixed potion in the pit began to bubble.
Zi Di stared intently at the potion and continued mixing it, occasionally wiping her eyes as though the fumes were stinging them.
Zhen Jin wanted to persuade her again, but after only a few breaths, he realized that he had lost the ability to speak.
His throat felt as though it were on fire, so swollen that even swallowing saliva was difficult.
His tongue was so numb that he could not feel it at all, as if he did not even possess that organ.
Very soon, his consciousness began to scatter. Then Zhen Jin entered a half-awake, half-asleep state and lost all awareness of what was happening around him.
In his daze, he felt a cool liquid slide through his mouth and down his throat.
His throat felt as though clogged stones had been piled tightly together, but under the nourishment of the cool liquid, those stones rapidly melted away, soon opening a clear passage.
The cool liquid then flowed deep into Zhen Jin's body and gradually spread.
Sensation rapidly returned to Zhen Jin's body.
Zhen Jin opened his eyes and saw Zi Di's blurry figure almost pressed against him.
The girl's hands were covered in potion as she smeared it all over Zhen Jin's body.
Zhen Jin wore Chainmail, but the Fire Poison had swollen his skin, causing the armor to bind him tightly.
With the potion's help, the reddened, swollen skin rapidly shrank as though air had been let out of it.
This was followed by a bone-piercing chill that made Zhen Jin shudder on the spot.
The Mountain Cave was extremely hot. After working for a while, Zi Di was soon drenched in sweat, and her formerly loose mage robe clung tightly to her body.
After applying the potion, the girl's violet eyes shone brightly as she stared at Zhen Jin without blinking, filled with anticipation.
Zhen Jin was like a drowning man who had been pulled ashore and had the water pounded from his chest. He opened his mouth and took great breaths. Hot air entered his body, yet he felt the bliss of rain after a long drought!
As he gradually came back to himself, Zhen Jin discovered that his mouth was still hanging open and saliva was constantly flowing out, pooling across the ground.
In Zi Di's eyes, she could clearly see Zhen Jin's swelling rapidly subsiding and his condition visibly improving.
"My lord, you're awake!" Seeing Zhen Jin's eyes fully clear, Zi Di was overjoyed. Truthfully, she had not been very confident in the potion she had made.
"How long was I unconscious?" Zhen Jin asked.
"Only a few minutes," Zi Di immediately answered.
Zhen Jin immediately felt relieved. "We need to leave this Mountain Cave quickly."
Without question, this was a dangerous place.
The Fire Poison Bee swarm had fled in disarray earlier. Most likely, the monster in the cave had won.
Once it returned to its lair after winning, the boy and girl would become the monster's meal.
Going deeper into the Mountain Cave carried great risks.
Who knew whether there were any other passages here? If not, this was a complete dead end.
Zi Di dragged Zhen Jin to his feet.
Zhen Jin supported himself against the cave wall and stood up.
The wall was scorching hot, and the stench of burning came through his glove, but Zhen Jin was delighted. Whether it was the searing heat or the burning smell, both were normal human sensations.
Before this, he had been unable to feel them.
What delighted and puzzled Zhen Jin even more was that he could feel a force surging from within his body, growing stronger and stronger.
Seeing Zhen Jin's puzzled expression, Zi Di explained with fear and guilt, "My lord, I'm sorry. I added a lot of Berserk Potion to the mixture."
After drinking a Berserk Potion, one could temporarily unleash a great deal of hidden potential, greatly increasing combat strength. However, its side effects were also severe; it could be said to inflict tremendous harm upon the body.
"You did the right thing! There's no need to blame yourself." Zhen Jin patted the girl's shoulder, easing her unease.
"Let's go." Zhen Jin urged her and tried to take a step on his own.
The dizziness in his head remained, but it had weakened considerably. Zhen Jin soon discovered that he could walk independently, even run.
The power in his body grew stronger and stronger. Zhen Jin even felt that his Chainmail had become somewhat weightless.
It seems the Berserk Potion has fully stimulated my life potential. But once the time limit is reached and the effect wears off, what will happen then?
This enormous hidden danger filled Zhen Jin's heart with gloom.
Normally, once the Berserk Potion's effects wore off, a person would fall into a state of extreme weakness.
Zhen Jin was already afflicted with Fire Poison, and Zi Di's hastily prepared potion had not truly resolved it. It had merely relied on the Berserk Potion working alongside other potions to make Zhen Jin's vitality erupt and resist the Fire Poison.
No matter what, I must use this chance to escape this danger. Even if I cannot get away, I must do everything I can to save Zi Di!
Zhen Jin had already resolved himself to die.
He had been awake for only a short time, and his memories were fragmented, but he knew this:
Zi Di is my fiancee. Our relationship seems somewhat complicated, and there may be hidden circumstances.
But she has remained by my side without abandoning me. She was even willing to sacrifice her life for me, no matter how great the danger.
How could I ever repay a girl like her?
As a knight, can I not even protect my own fiancee?
Zhen Jin secretly swore that he would give everything he had to protect the girl.
The two ran hand in hand through the Mountain Cave.
Before long, they reached the cave entrance.
The roars of beasts fighting came from outside.
The battle outside the cave was at a desperate stalemate.
Zhen Jin and Zi Di both became uncertain. After exchanging a glance, they quietly approached the entrance and peered outside.
The Fire Poison Bee swarm had long since vanished. The current battle was between two other sides.
One side was the monster that had charged out of the Mountain Cave and driven off the Fire Poison Bee swarm.
This monster was thickly built, like a brown bear, but it had a monkey's pink tail. It stood upright on its hind legs. Its feet were bear paws, but its forelimbs were not bear claws; they were hands similar to a gorilla's.
Each of its hands had four fingers, with long, sharp black nails that seemed to possess the texture of Black Iron.
The other side consisted of panther-like beasts. However, they had no fur, and their bodies were covered in scales.
Furthermore, each had a single horn growing from its forehead. It resembled a rhinoceros horn, but was extremely sharp.
There was only one Monkey-Tailed Brown Bear, but there were more than a dozen Scaled Horn Black Panthers.
Judging from the auras they gave off, the Monkey-Tailed Brown Bear was a Silver-level magical beast. Most of the Scaled Horn Black Panthers were Bronze-level magical beasts; only their leader and a few others possessed the aura of Black Iron lifeforms.
The Leopard Group had surrounded the brown bear in the center, and the two sides fought fiercely.
The brown bear was powerful, and no single black panther could match it. The black panthers pounced, only to be slapped away by the brown bear almost every time. Yet they quickly rose again, clearly showing that their bodies were tough and strong enough to endure such heavy blows.
Watching the two sides remain locked in stalemate, Zhen Jin and Zi Di exchanged a glance and saw the heavy worry in each other's eyes.
If they rashly charged out, the Leopard Group would likely surround them and tear them to pieces!
"My lord, if an opportunity comes, run out. Don't worry about me," Zi Di said softly.
Zhen Jin shook his head, having no leisure to refute his fiancee.
Even he was not very confident that he could break through the beasts' encirclement.
More importantly, he still had to escape with Zi Di.
The difficulty was simply too great!
And...
Zhen Jin's condition itself was full of hidden dangers.
Once the potion's effects wore off and the suppressed Fire Poison flared up again, it would become an enormous threat to Zhen Jin's life.
What should he do?
If only I had battle qi, if only I could use battle qi...
Zhen Jin felt stifled and distressed.
A weapon was hidden inside his body, but he had no way to use it.
