Mayer sat in his office browsing the news, all of it reports about the Joker Virus. That damned virus had put internet companies on high alert.
No one knew which city would be next.
As a small internet company, they wanted to develop software capable of detecting and removing the Joker Virus too, but that was easier said than done. Even Britain, with its entire nation's resources, had failed to develop software that could eliminate it.
"Damn Chinese Character Programming Language."
Mayer cursed under his breath. To Western programmers, this Chinese Character Programming Language was practically an unreadable heavenly script. To learn it, they first had to master Chinese. Chinese was widely recognized as one of the hardest languages in the world to learn, and this programming language was simply torture.
"Manager, bad news!" Just as he was cursing the Chinese Character Programming Language, a female secretary rushed in.
"Did you see a mouse, Miss Lia?" Mayer asked.
"The Joker Organization has just announced that the next city is New York City," Lia said.
"Joker? Is some circus in New York putting on a show?" Mayer laughed. Then the atmosphere abruptly froze, and his mind made the connection. "You said the Joker Organization? Damn clowns, I hate circuses. Cut the internet. Disconnect it immediately!"
Mayer's pig-slaughter-like scream shook the entire office.
One tweet from the Joker Organization had put all of New York City on edge. The first thought of anyone who received the news while sitting before a computer was to disconnect from the internet.
Holding an entire city hostage had filled people with terror at the name Joker.
New York had fallen.
