In the rented apartment, Chen Mo put down the book in his hands and lay back on the bed.
To figure out the circuitry of a phone motherboard, he had spent little time reading lately. Instead, he had been dismantling old phone motherboards to gain a deeper understanding of them. After all, this was a hands-on profession.
After several days of effort, the phone motherboard design was complete.
He had not chosen to actually make the phone motherboard himself. Handcrafting one would require an enormous amount of effort.
Etching the circuit board, drilling holes, soldering components—every step was troublesome. One careless mistake could ruin everything and force him to start over. Professional work should be left to professionals.
After handing the phone motherboard design and battery dimension design to Zhao Min, he stopped worrying about them. Phone testing, production, and the phone system launch conference were all left to Zhao Min.
With the phone design work finished, he could finally turn his attention back to books.
His days became relaxed again. Sometimes, he accompanied Xiao Yu on dates or went out to have fun. The rest of his time was spent reading in the shop.
There was still a long way to go before he reached one thousand books, enough to keep him busy for quite some time. But after all his effort, he had now finished his three hundredth book.
Now, he knew he had rested enough. The next stretch would be busy again.
After lying down, Chen Mo closed his eyes and entered the Sci-Tech Library.
The enormous bookshelves were still a hundred meters tall, but Chen Mo was no longer surprised by them.
Whenever he came in and chatted with Old Shu, he would sometimes wander through those bookshelves.
Old Shu had told him stories about the development of other civilizations and introduced the technologies on the shelves—countless things Chen Mo had never imagined, things he had not even dared to imagine.
There were armor suits similar to Iron Man's, methods for developing superpowers, even designs for super spacecraft, as well as Quantum Teleportation Portals. Every technology one could imagine existed here. Chen Mo had even seen pharmaceutical technologies for extending lifespan on the shelves.
If the high-authority technologies in the Sci-Tech Library were taken out and turned into products, the entire world would go mad over them.
After looking around the library, Chen Mo walked over to the desk and opened the book lying on it.
The instant he opened it, Old Shu's figure appeared in the Sci-Tech Library alongside a curtain of light.
"Here to collect technology?" Old Shu asked.
"Yes." Chen Mo nodded.
"You currently have two chances: one random selection and one free selection. Which will you use first?" Old Shu said.
Random selection was a benefit of his apprentice-level authority, available once every month. The day before yesterday had marked the start of the second month, but Chen Mo had not dared use it.
There was something cursed about the random selection option. Thinking of the first thing he had randomly drawn—"Ultra-Thin Sanitary Napkin Production Technology"—still left him traumatized.
Although he had randomly gotten office software afterward, the shadow remained. That was why, after gaining the right of free selection, he had decided to make that choice first, lest he come back empty-handed. The uncertainty of random selection was like buying lottery tickets; one never knew what technology it would give.
"Let's do the random selection first." Chen Mo answered without hesitation.
As soon as he spoke, books once again densely filled the air, like tiles covering a wall, dazzling him with their sheer number.
The books began to rotate slowly, and Chen Mo's heart clenched. He prayed inwardly for something useful, or else another opportunity would be wasted.
After quite a while, the spinning books finally stopped and condensed into one book that fell into Old Shu's hand.
Chen Mo froze when he saw the cover.
"Human Reproduction Assistance Potion Recipe"??
A potion? Human reproduction assistance? What kind of medicine was that? Was this cover really technology? The name alone sounded strange.
In that instant, Chen Mo felt a bad omen.
"What kind of medicine is that?" Chen Mo pointed at the book.
"Your luck is very good." Old Shu burst into hearty laughter. "This is good stuff."
"I haven't even entered the medical field yet. Giving me this recipe means I can't use it for now. Tell me quickly, what is it?" Hearing Old Shu laugh made Chen Mo's bad feeling grow even stronger.
"To put it plainly, it's an aphrodisiac drug."
Chen Mo felt as though lightning had struck him five times. His face flushed red. Just what he feared had happened. Again—he had drawn some obscure technology. At this point, he felt random selection was an enormous trap.
"Your luck is very good." Old Shu laughed.
"Good luck? I can't use it for now." Chen Mo looked as if he wanted to cry but had no tears.
"It is good luck. It has no side effects." After saying that, Old Shu laughed heartily again.
Chen Mo looked more miserable than if he had swallowed a cockroach alive. It was bad enough that he could not use it now, but it was also such an obscure technology. Even if it had been medical technology, he would have felt less depressed if it were medicine for treating influenza.
"Looking at you, you don't want it?" Old Shu asked.
"I want it. Why wouldn't I?" Chen Mo hurriedly said. Even if he could not use it now, it would be useful someday. That stuff was outrageously expensive, and this one had no side effects. It was all gleaming silver.
Old Shu slapped the book into Chen Mo's mind and laughed loudly. Whenever he recalled Chen Mo's expression just now, he could not help wanting to laugh. He had forgotten how long it had been since he had laughed so freely.
"Why is the Sci-Tech Library's random selection so pitiful?"
Chen Mo gave a bitter smile. He now had psychological trauma from random selection. Out of countless technologies, it had randomly given him something so obscure.
"It's not a trap. Your luck is good. You still have one free selection right. Do you want to use it?" Old Shu asked with a smile.
"Yes." Chen Mo nodded, but thinking of the immense number of books made him feel troubled.
"You don't know what technology to choose?" Old Shu asked.
"That's right. There are too many things I want to choose, but considering the current situation, I wouldn't be able to use those technologies for now. Old Shu, do you have any suggestions?"
"This one."
Old Shu opened his palm, and a book formed in his hand.
"Computer Language Creation and Application"
"Is this for creating programming languages?" Chen Mo's eyes lit up.
"Yes. It teaches you how to use your own language to create computer languages." Old Shu said.
"This is the one."
Chen Mo had not expected the Sci-Tech Library to contain a book like this.
Chinese characters were exceptionally ingenious, even broad and profound. In terms of logical expression, they were far more flexible and subtle than English.
Whether it was ancient classical prose, poetry and lyrics, or modern internet jokes, they all carried the unique expressive charm of Chinese characters.
But unfortunately, despite computers having developed for so long, there had never been a computer language based entirely on Chinese characters. If he could create a Chinese Character Programming Language, it would definitely be groundbreaking.
Once he learned such a book existed, Chen Mo chose it without hesitation.
After receiving Chen Mo's confirmation, Old Shu nodded. "Study it well. What belongs to you is your greatest strength. The Sci-Tech Library's things ultimately belong to others. Creation is the foundation of the Sci-Tech Library's existence."
After Old Shu slapped the book into Chen Mo's head, countless symbols and words flashed through his mind. Upon obtaining "Computer Language Creation and Application," delight appeared on Chen Mo's face. All the gloom from receiving the potion recipe vanished.
As long as he could create a Chinese Character Programming Language, nothing else mattered.
After leaving the Sci-Tech Library, Chen Mo began digesting the "Computer Language Creation and Application" he had just received. He spent two hours carefully understanding the book twice, then eagerly bent over the desk and began designing the keywords and phrases for the Chinese Character Programming Language.
