I looked down and finally discovered the "cat" that had sent the three little brats in the house (for some reason, ever since Xiao Xue came over, I felt like the whole house was full of little brats) into a frenzy. Yet all I saw was a shadow imprinted on the ground. A cat-shaped shadow, the sort of silhouette sunlight cast onto the ground when it shone on something. It was as if there really were a cat standing by my feet, with the sunlight falling down and leaving its outline beside me.
But there was no cat. Other than that shadow, there was nothing there.
"Damn, was the basement door left unlocked? Did Anweina's bunch of paranormal soldiers get out?" I clicked my tongue in amazement. "But I don't remember there being anything like a cat shadow in the basement."
Xiao Xue jumped straight in through the window and scratched her head the moment she saw the shadow on the ground. "Uh... how are we supposed to catch this?"
She was still holding that oversized net, but it was completely useless now.
The cat shadow twisted its body. Surrounded so forcefully, it no longer ran away. Watching its movements, I had the distinct feeling that it was smugly looking around as if to say, See? Nothing you can do now, huh?
It was an incredibly bizarre sight, yet I somehow detected a mischievous air in it.
"Well then, looks like it really is some kind of abnormal phenomenon," Lilina said through gritted teeth as she stared at the cat shadow. "I don't care whether you slipped out of Shadow City or Avalon, get back and report in immediately! Otherwise, don't blame me for taking action. This Pope is a professional exorcist... Holy crap!"
The cat shadow leaped off the
