The shelter's Core Area was actually located at the center of the ring-shaped city, though not aboveground but underground. The outer ring of this circular ecosystem resembled a broad doughnut, where the city's residents lived. Its interior, meanwhile, was supported and connected by countless enormous metal beams like the spokes of a bicycle wheel, leading at the very center to a circular metal platform roughly a kilometer in diameter. This metal platform was actually the top of a fully enclosed armored shell, with the Core Area beneath it. When our Transport Aircraft flew over the platform, a huge hexagonal opening split open across its surface. Only then did I realize where the so-called Core Area was.
Come to think of it, the civilization in this shelter seemed particularly fond of two geometric shapes: hexagons and cylinders. Many of the buildings and facilities we had seen along the way shared those features. That was probably one of their distinctive traits.
There was a landing platform inside the shelter. After we landed, our group followed Anu Lili out of the Transport Aircraft and proceeded deeper into the Core Area along a passageway that resembled the alloy corridors aboard a starship. Along the way, we repeatedly encountered Resistance Organization members in uniforms and carrying weapons. These people were very different from the somewhat immature young patrolman we had met earlier. If I had to describe it, it was like the difference in impression between ace troops and hastily mobilized recruits.
The Resistance Organization fighters we encountered along the way all seemed familiar with Anu Lili. Many stopped to greet her, and she answered every one of them with a smile. From that alone, I guessed that
