I was actually a little worried about whether Anu Lili could accept that her compatriots had turned into a bunch of glowing mosaics—or whether she could accept that a bunch of glowing mosaics were her compatriots. Personally, I did not think it was much of a problem. Maybe I had spent too long with the Shilin Apostles, or maybe I dealt with all kinds of bizarre intelligent species in Shadow City every day, but my ability to accept different racial forms was no ordinary thing now. Basically, anything capable of thought could count as an intelligent species to me. Without that kind of acceptance, you simply could not survive in Shadow City. Even an iron ball—or a puddle of jelly—you ran into on the roadside might be smarter than you... But Anu Lili might not see it that way. No matter what, the girl had not seen much of the world yet. She might accept other races looking strange, but she might not be used to her own Old Ancestors having even replaced their portraits with dazzling colors.
And I also had to worry whether those spirit creatures could integrate into local life after going home. It could be said that, aside from their souls, they had now completely become an entirely new species. They no longer ate or drank, and they no longer possessed most human emotions constrained by the flesh. They only needed to go catch some wind in the ionosphere once a month to stay alive, and their minds were filled with knowledge at least seven hundred years old. They said there was a generation gap every three years—so just how deep do you think the gap was between these Old Ancestors and Anu Lili's generation?
Could Anu Lili and her compatriots accept a group of ancestors
