Background / History

Yugao was a member of Konoha's ANBU Third Squad when Hiruzen Sarutobi assigned the newly graduated Sakura Haruno to the unit. Wearing a Bird Mask, she met Sakura outside the Hokage's office, tested her pace while escorting her to the ANBU base, and was surprised that Sakura could keep up even after Yugao accelerated to her own limit. She then showed Sakura her assigned locker and brought her before Squad Captain Tenzo. 29

She accompanied Sakura on her first ANBU mission: the elimination of a bandit stronghold suspected of smuggling ties. After Sakura killed a fleeing bandit, Yugao reminded her not to become preoccupied with investigating the gang's outside connections. 30

As Sakura rose through Konoha's ranks, Yugao remained close to her.
