Dylan did not have much money.
But it was, after all, the savings his dad and mom had accumulated over most of their lives.
Exchanging it for two thousand Galleons was more than enough.
However, Dylan did not plan to exchange all of it.
He needed to keep some principal on hand.
Besides that, he spent five hundred pounds sterling to exchange for one hundred Galleons, which he carried with him.
This earned him a round of eye-rolls from the Goblins.
Sure enough, these Young Wizards from Muggle Families were all poor as dirt, one after another!
"Let's go. We'll buy the tickets."
Professor McGonagall led Dylan to buy the tickets for the journey to Hogwarts.
She also reminded him, "At King's Cross Station, you'll need to look for the Third Pillar between Platforms Nine and Ten."
"When the time comes, don't be afraid. Just run straight into the pillar, and you'll reach Platform Nine and Three-Quarters."
Dylan nodded.
Next, under Professor McGonagall's guidance, he arrived at the Wand Shop.
Dylan looked up.
He saw the sign hanging outside the shop: "Established in 382 BC?"
He scanned the cramped, narrow-looking storefront twice.
Dylan clicked his tongue. "Has this place really never been renovated over the past few centuries?"
"Don't worry. A wizard's house can be supported with magic."
Professor McGonagall smiled at Dylan. "The Ollivander family's craftsmanship isn't limited to making wands. This house won't collapse."
Professor McGonagall pushed open the door.
Dylan followed her inside.
The moment he entered, he saw a wretched old man with his backside sticking up, rummaging through a pile of wands.
Hearing the doorbell ring, Ollivander stood up and turned around, immediately spotting Professor McGonagall.
"Nine and a half inches, fir, dragon heartstring... Oh, Professor McGonagall, I'm delighted you've brought another Young Wizard to patronize my business."
Professor McGonagall took Dylan's hand and pulled him in front of her.
"Then please choose a wand suitable for him."
Professor McGonagall lowered her head and said to Dylan, "I need to buy some Magical Ingredients, so after you've chosen your wand, wait for me by the entrance."
"All right, Professor." Dylan nodded.
The doorbell rang.
Professor McGonagall left the Wand Shop.
Seeing a brand-new Young Wizard standing before him, Ollivander smiled. "Child, are you ready to become a true Young Wizard? I wonder, are you right-handed or...?"
"I can't wait." Dylan raised his arm. "I habitually use my right hand."
"Oh! All right, just a moment." Ollivander walked over to Dylan and moved a measuring tape back and forth over him.
Finally, he rummaged through a pile of wand boxes and took one out.
"Try this one."
Dylan took the wand and habitually swung his arm the moment it entered his hand.
The next instant, muscle memory nearly made him fling an Avada Kedavra at Ollivander.
"Holy crap!"
Dylan was startled and hurriedly suppressed the spell in his mind before lightly flicking his arm.
"Whoosh!"
A gust of wind erupted instantly, then sent the rack of wand boxes Ollivander had just organized into complete disarray.
A pile of wands and boxes came crashing down.
However, Ollivander seemed to have long since grown accustomed to such things. He gave his wand a light wave.
"Reparo!"
The wand boxes were bound by magic, then floated back through the air to their original positions.
"Looks like this one isn't quite suitable for you."
Ollivander frowned and turned to search back and forth across the shelves.
"What do you think of this one?"
Dylan took it.
"Whoosh!"
A burst of magical fire shot out.
"It seems the magic inside you is rather volatile."
Ollivander took the wand back, then had Dylan try seven or eight more wands in succession.
But nearly every one of them caused considerable trouble.
Dylan felt somewhat flustered.
Could this be because he had learned the maxed-out Unforgivable Curses before he had even mastered how to use a wand?
Were those wands resisting him for that reason?
"Don't worry, child. I have plenty of wands here. There must be one that's suitable for you."
Seeing that Dylan did not look too good, Ollivander offered him some reassurance.
However, he had completely missed the point.
Dylan could only force a smile and let out a dry laugh. "I'm sorry to trouble you, sir."
"Serving customers is my duty, and you're not even the pickiest customer I've ever had." Ollivander chuckled.
He began searching for another wand.
From the lowest shelf all the way to the highest.
"This one isn't quite right. This one isn't suitable for you either... How about you try this?"
Ollivander pulled a wand down from the wall.
Dylan took it and gave it a slight wave.
"Boom!"
A surging mass of magic erupted.
A shockwave suddenly hurtled toward Ollivander.
Dylan was startled.
But Ollivander skillfully used his wand to dispel the shockwave.
As Dylan breathed a sigh of relief, a question arose in his mind.
Why could a Young Wizard who had never systematically studied spells unleash power comparable to an offensive spell while choosing a wand?
Dylan took another wand Ollivander handed him.
He waved it again.
This time, it actually caused a violent explosion.
Ollivander hurriedly used emergency measures to quell the explosion.
At that moment, Dylan could not help but sense the magic fluctuating within him.
It seems to be because of a momentary, disorderly change?
This change had caused the flames to appear, the shockwave to form, and even the explosion to erupt.
Why could he produce such powerful and varied effects every time he waved his wand, despite not using any spell at all?
Dylan continued trying the wands one after another.
Until Ollivander noticed that something was wrong.
"Wait! What are you doing?"
"Huh? I'm sensing the instant when the magic pours out as I take control of the wand, and whether I can use some method to control the resulting effect."
"What did you say? Oh my God! You little wizard are simply insane!"
Ollivander's eyes widened, and his expression turned serious.
He even dropped the wand box in his hand and strode over to Dylan, grabbing the hand that held the wand.
"Don't do that anymore! You're researching the invention of spells, but that's an extremely dangerous thing to do! Besides, it's not something you should be thinking about right now!"
"The... invention of spells?" Dylan raised an eyebrow.
He let Ollivander take the wand from his hand.
"Yes. When wizards first began researching spells, they had to go through this process. Back then, my ancestors hadn't even started making wands."
Perhaps he had been frightened, or perhaps he was worried that Dylan would secretly continue researching the invention of spells.
Ollivander warned him, "Wizards in ancient times believed that magic possessed a will of its own. Therefore, they would allow the magic to pour out freely and search for some visible pattern within it. Eventually, that process was passed down and developed into spells."
"But allowing magic to pour out freely can cost you your life!"
