Boundless rain of fire fell from the heavens toward the roaring colossal beast.
Yet when those spells, brimming with immense magic power, struck the beast, they merely scattered sparks and debris. Before the elves' despairing eyes, the crackling, terrifying Fire Elementals were swallowed whole by it.
Worse still, they suddenly discovered that many highly destructive spells not only consumed more power for less effect, but even required longer chanting times.
This made an already untenable situation even worse.
Even disregarding the damage to the Sunwell, their current strength was nearly powerless against the beast. Every movement it made was like a landslide or an earthquake, showing the elves scenes of devastation akin to a natural disaster.
The once peaceful, scenic surroundings had long since become a complete mess. Awakened and enraged, the colossal beast launched wild, overwhelming attacks against the elves.
Since the war a thousand years ago, the elves of Quel'Thalas had not suffered such grievous losses for a very long time. The arrogance and pride they had maintained all this while took a crushing blow today.
A thousand years ago, humans, dragons, and other races had helped them. But what about now?
The human Alliance led by Thoradin, including nearby nations such as Lordaeon, was facing enormous troubles of its own. It would likely be difficult for them to provide support.
What about the dragons?
Unless it was an invasion from beyond their world or a disaster capable of destroying the world, those creatures who preferred nesting in their own lairs and tending to their respective duties would likely not even bother looking outside.
But regardless, even if those powers were willing to lend a hand, it would already be too late.
