In Luke Field's private lounge at Hebron Technology, after seeing off the furious Ina Sandra, whom he had goaded into a rage, Luke offered a couple of perfunctory prayers for Justin Hammer's hypocritical response before impatiently lying down on the bed in his lounge, ready to face his upgrade and enhancement properly.
As for Justin Hammer, Luke did not care whether he lived or died. Nothing could stop his urge to upgrade and enhance himself now.
Closing his eyes and emptying his thoughts, the attributes of his only Talent Card appeared in his mind.
Talent Card: Creator Luke 1. Mechanical Affinity: A-??? {The empty Mechanical Throne—you are its sole Monarch} Can Grow 2. Manufacturing Control: C-??? {You possess an innate talent for creation, turning decay into wonder} Can Grow+ 3. Conversion Endowment: ??? {You possess the ability to convert a certain attribute into another opposing attribute and bestow it upon your creations} Locked 4. Concept Extraction: ??? {You can extract certain conceptual rules, allowing them to manifest as technology in your Mechanical Creations} Locked Description: Creator Luke is dead, but Hebron Technology endures.
Just as before, there was only one difference: a plus sign had appeared after Manufacturing Control's "Can Grow"! That meant it could be upgraded. Once Manufacturing Control grew from C to B, based on his previous experience of Mechanical Affinity growing to B and automatically revealing the Unlock Condition for Manufacturing Control, the next talent, Conversion Endowment, would also update with its Unlock Condition after this growth and upgrade.
Of course, the further down the list a talent was, the harsher its requirements might be. Mechanical Affinity had only required him to personally and independently create any Mechanical Creation of his own, but Manufacturing Control required him to possess a Research Group completely under his command and control, with at least one hundred people and several hidden requirements.
Luke had no complaints about that. Or rather, complaining was useless. If he wanted to survive in this dangerous world, the talents granted by the system were currently his only option. At the very least, with Creator Luke's Talent Template, he could not possibly end up worse off than Tony Stark, could he?
After all, Tony Stark's highest evaluation was merely that, with a mortal body, he stood shoulder to shoulder with gods.
Creator Luke at his peak, however, could absolutely be called a "true god"!
It was just that this god could not live forever.
His consciousness transformed into a finger and tapped the plus sign after Manufacturing Control's "Can Grow." A dazzling stream of light swept across the talent list within the dark Consciousness Space, and the contents of his Talent Card list changed to:
1. Mechanical Affinity: A-??? {Omitted} Can Grow 2. Manufacturing Control: B-??? {Omitted} Can Grow 3. Conversion Endowment: ?-??? {You possess the ability to convert a certain attribute into another opposing attribute and bestow it upon your creations} Locked! 4. Concept Extraction: ??? {Omitted} Locked You have gained thirty card-flipping attempts. Your cumulative card flips have reached one hundred and eighty.
A huge golden exclamation mark flashed behind the Conversion Endowment talent. Luke Field took a deep breath, calming himself as he absorbed the vast amount of knowledge and intuitive inspiration that had flooded into his mind from the upgrade. Once his attention returned to his consciousness, his finger tapped the flashing golden exclamation mark again.
Trial of the Hebron Monarch: Recover the power that belongs to the Hebron Monarch. Use the following device {Becky's Dimensional Positioning Device} to enter the Trial World. Upon returning, you will receive corresponding settlement rewards based on your overall performance in the trial. Time remaining to accept mission: 23:59:59 Basic Rewards: 1. Conversion Endowment talent unlocked 2. Luke's False Body: Light Blueprint Fragment Description: The flow of time in the Trial World is not proportional to that of your current world. Conversion ratio: 1 year = 1 day.
Something with the cold touch of metal abruptly appeared in Luke Field's palm. He opened his eyes, not even bothering with card flips anymore, and looked at the metal Cube in his hand, ten centimeters in length, width, and height. The Cube was black, as though some powerful energy source lay within it. Through the metal shell covered in precise, complex circuitry, it pulsed bright and dim like breathing. If one looked closely, the circuit pattern on one side of the metal Cube vaguely formed the outline of a pair of goggles.
At the same time, just like the items he had drawn from card flips, its corresponding attributes automatically appeared through his touch.
Becky's Dimensional Positioning Device: Single-use item. After activation, it can accurately locate the Coordinates of a dimensional world according to the user's needs. Its energy allows for one round-trip, two-way traversal.
Luke Field stared blankly at the black metal Cube in his hand.
He had known that the Unlock Condition might be difficult, but he had never expected it to be this unexpected!
If he had understood correctly, then within the next day, he had to decide whether to accept this mission and participate in this trial! He did not know what would happen after the time limit for accepting the trial expired. Would he forever lose the ability to unlock the powerful talents below? Would new Talent Cards never appear again?
What was the Trial World? Everything was a mystery.
What would happen in the Trial World? Everything was unknown.
Was the Trial World dangerous? It remained a murky blur.
But could he give up?
Luke Field shook his head.
If this had been the world before his transmigration, then of course he would not need to take risks. Creator Luke's first two talents alone would have been enough to make him one of the world's elite few. But in this crisis-ridden Marvel World, the little knowledge and resources he currently possessed could not protect him and his family for long.
Luke Field did not know whether abandoning the trial would halt his growth entirely, but he knew he was unwilling to bear that possible consequence. He could certainly slack off and barely survive for a few years. With enough luck, perhaps he could last until the Snap War that swept across the entire universe. But that would only be in a situation where he had no choice and no cheat.
Therefore, only one path lay before him.
Face the challenge head-on!
Accept the trial!
Of course, before accepting the trial, he still needed to arrange matters for the days he would be gone and make as many preparations as possible.
His absence for a few days was not much of an issue. Over the past year or two, he had often gone into seclusion for periods of time to receive and digest the knowledge that emerged in his mind. All Hebron Technology employees had reached a shared understanding: whenever Luke Field secluded himself alone, it meant Hebron Technology's technological foundation had grown deeper. The longer his seclusion lasted, the more astonishing the technology Luke Field brought out would be!
Why did Hebron Technology's researchers regard Luke Field as the Monarch guiding their path of scientific advancement?
It was because Luke Field's monstrous performance in research over the past year or two had utterly stunned them! They even worshiped him fanatically, seeing him as an unquestionable scientific genius comparable to Tony Stark! Of course, compared to Tony Stark, who wasted much of his energy and time on models, celebrities, and fashionable girls, Luke Field, who kept himself clean and devoted himself wholly to his laboratory, earned even more of their respect.
Thus, when Luke Field announced during the day that he would be entering seclusion, possibly for as long as a month, the entire Hebron Technology Department was filled with anticipation. Even employees from other departments beamed when they heard the news. Their company had just signed a Military Big Order. If nothing unexpected happened, after the Monarch of the company's research department emerged from seclusion, he would unveil more earth-shaking technological achievements. That meant the company's future would become even more promising.
After speaking with Ina Sandra and his parents, Luke Field made all the arrangements needed for the next month in this world, then returned to his seclusion laboratory and sealed it shut.
"Rudd," Luke Field called softly.
Whirr!
With a mechanical sound, a Mechanical Dog nearly two meters long including its tail trotted over to Luke Field. It had a silver-white metallic sheen and smooth lines across its entire body. It sat quietly before him like a living canine. This was the first Mechanical Creation Luke Field had personally made. Over the past five years, he had upgraded it several times, and almost all of Hebron Technology's innovations had first been installed on it. In terms of combat power, Luke Field did not believe Stark's early Mark Armor could compare with Rudd.
"Take over the laboratory. Follow the highest security protocols." Luke Field stroked its smooth metal head, gave it a pat, and issued the command.
The blue mechanical camera pupils in Rudd's eyes flickered. Under Luke Field's extensive modifications, it had nearly developed the consciousness of a living being. With the computational support of the laboratory's artificial intelligence loaded into it, ordinary artificial intelligence could not compare to it at all.
Luke entered the lounge of the seclusion laboratory. After closing the door in the small room, which contained only a bed and a cabinet, he took the black metal Cube from the cabinet into his palm. Once he activated it, he accepted the trial.
Bright but not glaring light spilled from the floating black metal Cube. Powered by the Cube's tremendous energy output, a Dimensional Gate resembling shards of a broken mirror appeared before Luke Field. After Luke Field stepped through it, both he and the Dimensional Gate vanished from the room.
"Wurururu?"
Outside the door, Rudd tilted its head upon detecting that its Master's life signs had disappeared. A thoughtful expression unique to intelligent life appeared in its Mechanical Eyes. In the end, it still firmly carried out the command its Master had given it.
PS: The site message came yesterday, but the follow-up process did not arrive until today, probably because they had gotten off work. Then the ID on my phone for the electronic signature did not match the ID on the contract, so I could not sign electronically. I have to change it to mailing the contract instead. This afternoon I need to transfer ownership of my phone number, print the contract, and so on. This is too hard.
The contract will be mailed tomorrow. Friday is definitely a lost cause, and Saturday and Sunday are rest days. If everything goes smoothly, the status probably will not change until Monday or Tuesday. I'm completely numb!
They say signing a contract gives you access to a traffic pool, but I cannot get any of it. It might also affect future recommendation placements. My mood is a complete mess. Only three thousand words today.
Please keep reading! Please bookmark! I'm so miserable!
