"This is absurd! A corporation actually built a Jaeger! And not just any Jaeger—a Sixth-Generation Jaeger beyond the current cutting-edge fifth generation! Since when did the world become this fantastical?"
Even after connecting an unfamiliar Jaeger to the application system and registering it on PPDC's Jaeger combat data platform, Cai Tiantong still found it hard to believe. He considered himself a genius, but even he had never imagined that he could rely on himself to enable a company to build a Jaeger! Not even a technologically mature fourth-generation one!
The cost was simply too high.
At its peak, the core team responsible for a single Jaeger's maintenance, repairs, and construction numbered at least several hundred people! Beyond that were countless teams attached to the project, each with clearly defined roles. Just thinking about the construction funding, technical capabilities, labor costs, supporting factories, and industrial strength required was enough to drive any corporate manager mad.
These days, the Jaeger program was something only nations could afford to play with!
If the information was true, then Shao Industries had shattered that assumption.
"I don't care how Shao Industries and Dr. Luke did it. As long as their Jaeger can help us eliminate Kaiju, I can overlook anything." Stacker watched the increasingly intense battle on the Virtual Screen, his gaze profound. Over the years, as much of the funding had shifted toward constructing the Kaiju Wall Project, he had even sold Kaiju corpses on the Black Market to keep PPDC running and maintain the Jaegers. What was there left for him to care about?
His only obsession was eliminating the Kaiju and finding a way to close the breach at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.
Anyone who could help along that path was his friend!
"Hold on, Rogue. Headquarters says new reinforcements will arrive soon." Crimson Typhoon stepped in to bail out the battered Shaolin Rogue, offering encouragement. But a momentary lapse in attention while speaking gave the wary Kaiju Huoda an opening. It abandoned Shaolin Rogue, endured several more wounds, seized Crimson Typhoon's Mechanical Arm, raised it high, and slammed it down!
Fortunately, Crimson Typhoon adjusted its angle midair. Its metal waist twisted a full one hundred and eighty degrees, turning its back into its front. Before Huoda's stunned Little Eye, it flipped upside down and kicked out, its thick mechanical legs bracing against the monster's waist and abdomen before hurling it away.
Roar!
Instead of throwing its opponent, Huoda was thrown itself. The Kaiju crashed heavily into the seawater, then rose in fury. Its entire body swelled with rapid breathing, its muscle contours and yellow arteries growing sharper and more conspicuous. Shaolin Rogue, rushing forward, was slapped to the ground. One of its metal Mechanical Arms was torn clean off. Huoda planted a foot on Shaolin Rogue's chest, tossed aside the severed arm, and reached directly for the Jaeger's head. Had Crimson Typhoon not stepped in once more, Shaolin Rogue's head would nearly have been torn off by Huoda's bare claws.
"Careful! It's gotten stronger!" With one Mechanical Arm ripped away and the energy barrier damaged by that brutal stomp, Shaolin Rogue's combat strength had plummeted. With Huoda clearly going berserk, if the Jaeger dared step forward in that condition, its two pilots could truly bid farewell to their beloved Shaolin Rogue in the sea.
Fortunately, Shaolin Rogue's pilots had already received PPDC's alert. Or rather, they had not needed one. On their Jaeger's Virtual Screen projection, they saw an unfamiliar machine trailing flames as it rapidly descended nearby.
It was a peculiar Jaeger with a skull-like head, its three eyes taking up half its face. Its back bulged high like a hunchback. Judging from the thickness of its armor... well, it looked like a tough fighter that could take and deal punishment. It could replace Shaolin Rogue at the front, draw fire, and create an opening for Crimson Typhoon to attack.
"Brother..."
The Shaolin Rogue pilot brothers were about to greet the newcomer, offer some intelligence, and coordinate tactics. Before they could finish speaking, though, a massive red figure flew past their Virtual Screen, sailing beside the newcomer Jaeger. It smashed through a floor, and half its body was buried beneath the rubble.
The next instant, Huoda, having sent Crimson Typhoon flying, charged forward in a berserk rush to finish it off. When it encountered the new obstacle, it drove hard with its lower body, leaped into the air, and brought both arms crashing down on the newly arrived Jaeger.
Boom!
Kulturo raised both arms and bent its knees slightly. The energy system in its chest surged at full output. Before everyone's dumbfounded eyes, the seemingly unstoppable berserk Kaiju Huoda was brought into a deadlock of raw strength against it.
Huoda only hated that it was an upright type without a tail. If it had a tail, then even with both hands pinned by its opponent, it could at least have smacked the other side with it. It also hated not having any special long-range attack organs. Unfortunately, it was purely a strength-type Kaiju. But it still had one trump card—its ultimate trump card, the very reason it had been designed! It could fly!
The skin beneath its arms suddenly split apart. Huoda's berserk body began shrinking as though it were leaking air. Yet pterosaur-like wings appeared before the world's eyes for the first time. It intended to carry this metal lump that refused to let go into the sky, let it experience the romance of soaring through the heavens—and the despair of plummeting to the planet.
But the next moment, before Huoda's flapping wings could generate enough lift, its four pairs of eyes stared in bewilderment once again. Two slender Mechanical Arms extended from its opponent's back, as though they had no muscle structure at all, only bones. More shocking still, each slender Mechanical Arm held a bright blue energy sphere in its palm—one glance was enough to tell that they were called Mjolnir.
Huoda struggled even harder, but Kulturo moved faster. The two Mechanical Arms extending from its back drove their energy spheres forward with brute force. One was shoved into Huoda's gaping mouth, while the other was pressed into a wound Crimson Typhoon had cut across its chest.
Blinding light flared within Huoda's body. The wound carved by Crimson Typhoon's saw blades seemed to become an outlet for the berserk energy inside it. Strands of electricity curled out like branching twigs, and beneath the dark clouds, Huoda looked like a glowing porcupine—particularly eye-catching.
More than ten seconds passed. Huoda, which had been struggling constantly moments before, no longer moved. Like a lump of rotten flesh, its feet hung off the ground as Kulturo held it high in the air.
"Kaiju life signs have vanished."
At PPDC, Cai Tiantong delivered the report somewhat numbly. Beside him, Stacker stared blankly at the peculiar Jaeger in the Virtual Projection, light flickering in his eyes.
Shao Industries.
The core area of the G3 Jaeger Factory.
Shao Zhiwen rushed in with his people in a blaze of urgency. The moment he entered, he saw Luke Field removing the neural handshake helmet from his head. Shao Zhiwen looked around in astonishment, trying to find the person who had been neural-linked with Luke Field. Yet among everyone present, only Luke Field was wearing the equipment.
PS: Otachi could fly. According to the information I found, the prototype for carrying someone up and dropping them was Huoda. Huoda carried Shaolin Rogue, but Shaolin Rogue wasn't the protagonist's Jaeger, so it couldn't survive a fall from ten thousand meters up. It was destroyed.
PS: Second update complete.
