Not long after following the route indicated by the ancient doll, Light Rain finally encountered his first monster.

This mining doll was made of wood and iron. It held a pickaxe and carried a basket on its back. A huge hollow had appeared in its chest, presumably where its body's energy source had once been.
But strangely, the moment Light Rain stepped into this place, it seemed to be suddenly stimulated and abruptly came to life. An eerie pale white light flashed in its eyes as it launched an attack on Light Rain.
[You have killed the Mining Doll.]
A monster without even Fire Offering strength naturally posed no threat to Light Rain. He killed it with a single shot.
The battle was not the important part.
What Light Rain was more curious about was why this Mining Doll could still stand up when it clearly no longer had a core energy source.
If he were playing an ordinary game, he certainly would not nitpick over something like that.
But Spirit Candle was different. Its detailed design did not create things out of nowhere.
The Mining Doll's ability to stand and attack him had to be due to some other reason.
With that in mind, Light Rain advanced while questioning the ancient doll in his hand.
Although the ancient doll spoke in broken fragments that were painful to listen to, after patiently hearing it out, Light Rain still obtained quite a bit of useful information.
His guess had been correct.
In the ancient doll's memories, these Mining Dolls did indeed require something like an "energy core" to function.
