Ch. 606The Strange Scepter

Dust Grinding found a talking scepter in the Living Sacrifice Festival dungeon and brought it along as he explored. After defeating a giant rat, he heard the scepter speak cryptically about pain, leaving him puzzled by its meaning.

  • Two and a Half Years of Dust Grinding found a one-of-a-kind talking scepter in the Living Sacrifice Festival dungeon and named it the Philosopher's Scepter.
  • The Philosopher's Scepter could not be put into Dust Grinding's inventory, so he carried it with him as he continued exploring.
  • Dust Grinding reached a village where a giant rat attacked every living creature, and he prepared to fight it.
  • The Philosopher's Scepter commented on Dust Grinding drinking a potion, and he told it to stop distracting him.
  • Dust Grinding defeated the giant rat while nearby rat zombies fought and slaughtered one another.
  • The Philosopher's Scepter spoke about pain, and Dust Grinding stopped to ask what it was babbling about.

Ch. 607Five-Star Critic

Ashbeater realized Philosopher's Scepter could infer the truth behind events in Rat Village without prior information, and tested the artifact at another disturbing scene. He left to explore more locations in the Living Sacrifice Festival dungeon and see whether it would comment on them too.

  • Ashbeater recalled Storyteller's account of how the evil god's faith spread through Rat Village by letting Ratfolk transfer their pain to others.
  • Ashbeater wondered how Philosopher's Scepter had understood the dungeon's underlying story and suspected its special effect let it perceive the truth.
  • Ashbeater brought Philosopher's Scepter to a nest where a Ratfolk mother nailed her willing child to a cross to ease their pain.
  • Philosopher's Scepter described the conflict between the mother-and-child bond and the instinct to survive, confirming Ashbeater's suspicion that it could judge events without prior information.
  • Ashbeater regretted naming the artifact Philosopher's Scepter instead of Five-Star Critic, then set off to test it at other locations.

Ch. 608Lies or Not

Ashbeater discovered that the Philosopher's Scepter could comment on events but might lie about gods, after it contradicted evidence that the Mother of All Things had answered a Ratfolk believer's prayer. Players on the Spirit Candle Forum discussed the scepter's potential and questioned whether it could be trusted.

  • Ashbeater visited a Ratfolk settlement and found a frail believer praying to the Mother of All Things while enduring suffering.
  • The Philosopher's Scepter mocked the believer's faith, claiming the gods were trembling and would give no response.
  • Ashbeater collected the Remnant Radiance of All Things, an item that showed the believer's prayer had received divine help.
  • Ashbeater questioned whether the Philosopher's Scepter or Spirit Candle was lying about the gods.
  • Players discussed Ashbeater's discovery on the Spirit Candle Forum and speculated that the scepter might lie or lack the power to discern the truth.

Ch. 609Contradiction and Chaos

Two and a Half Years of Dust Grinding considered how to investigate the Philosopher's Scepter and agreed to meet Wu Liao, who offered to pay him to test it in other instances. Rogue examined the scepter, found its aura contradictory and chaotic, and returned it with Spirit Candle Power hidden inside as bait for whoever had lost it.

  • Two and a Half Years of Dust Grinding read the Candle Scholars' analysis and considered asking the Storyteller, Yuanfang, or the Candle Keepers about the scepter.
  • Wu Liao contacted Two and a Half Years of Dust Grinding and offered candle oil to help test the scepter in selected instances.
  • Two and a Half Years of Dust Grinding placed the scepter in the Spirit Candle Space, allowing Rogue to examine its unusual aura.
  • Rogue found that the scepter's aura resisted assimilation, concealed Spirit Candle Power inside it, and returned it to Two and a Half Years of Dust Grinding as bait.
  • Two and a Half Years of Dust Grinding recognized Wu Liao as the forum's 'if scenario thread starter' and proposed consulting the Candle Keepers and Storyteller before testing the scepter together.

Ch. 610Saint's Fire Pot

Li Miao returned to Candlewood Island with Zered and Aiver, but Sugyur forced the Burial Ship to self-destruct before the Candle Keepers could capture it. After learning that stronger Spirit Candle power might free Zered and the others, Li Miao received rewards for helping Candlewood Island, including a Saint's Fire Pot.

  • Li Miao arrived at Candlewood Island and found the Storyteller, Yuanfang, and the Candle Keepers waiting for him.
  • Sugyur sensed the Spirit Candle's power, forced Zered and the Burial Ship to flee, and hurled Aiver toward Li Miao before the ship was swallowed by an invisible force.
  • The Candle Keepers explained that the Burial Ship had escaped through self-destruction, and Li Miao asked whether stronger Spirit Candle power could capture it and lift the curse.
  • The Candle Keepers explained Aiver's soul-seeing talent and mental condition, then agreed he could stay on Candlewood Island.
  • Rogue rewarded Li Miao for his contribution, and Li Miao excitedly examined the Saint's Fire Pot he received.

Ch. 611Ants and the Sun

Li Miao returned with valuable rewards but discovered that the supplies he had sent through Zered’s Anchor had not arrived. Ashbeater tested the Philosopher’s Scepter in the Leckmod story, and the chapter left the players suspecting that the family’s fate was tied to powerful beings who regarded the weak as insignificant.

  • Li Miao showed the Storyteller and Yuanfang his Saint's Fire Pot, Pioneer's Armguards, and Pearl of Suffering, then realized the supplies he had stored in Zered's Anchor might not survive the Burial Ship’s destruction.
  • Ashbeater questioned the Philosopher’s Scepter’s silence in Candlelight Hall, then entered Nearshore Cave to investigate its response to the Fire-Igniter.
  • The Philosopher’s Scepter compared the weak to an ant unable to see the sun or learn the truth, and Ashbeater recorded its words before telling Wu Liao.
  • Wu Liao and the Storyteller connected the scepter’s metaphor to a hidden thread in Leckmod’s story, and the Storyteller sent Ashbeater to the Leckmod Family Ruins.
  • Ashbeater found that the Philosopher’s Scepter had nothing to say in the ruins, and the Storyteller concluded that the Leckmod Family merited only a brief remark, possibly because of a connection to a higher form of life.

Ch. 612Bulges and Hollows

Ashbeater used the Philosopher's Scepter to uncover evaluations of several instance characters, and the Storyteller compiled them for players to study. Li Miao delivered important items to Candlewood Island and asked Rogue about Sea Forest and the uses of his supplies.

  • Under the Storyteller and Wu Liao's direction, Ashbeater gathered the Philosopher's Scepter's evaluations from several instances until his strength ran out.
  • Wu Liao wondered whether putting the self-aware scepter into a filthy pool might trigger a special scenario, but the Storyteller warned him not to risk it.
  • The Storyteller posted the scepter's evaluations on the forum, where players joked about them and discussed their possible meanings.
  • Li Miao delivered items from The Undying Kehel and the Sea Forest governor, along with Sea Wine Grass and Dragon's Horn, to the Candle Keepers and received War Contribution from Rogue.
  • Li Miao asked Rogue about joining a future trip to Sea Forest and learned that Sea Wine Grass could grow in the Magic-Infused Hut, while Dragon's Horn could not be planted and its use was still unknown.

Ch. 613Sugyur

Rogue studied the items Li Miao brought back, planned negotiations and trade with Sea Forest, and examined the Dragon's Horn for ways to improve the Candle Spirit Physique. Meanwhile, Zered returned to the Sugyur after the Burial Ship's destruction and accused them of fearing that Candlewood Island could break its curse, then asked whether they had any better ideas.

  • Rogue decided to send Burton to negotiate with Sea Forest and planned to establish a dedicated ship for trade.
  • Rogue sent a message to Undying Kehel and considered how to distribute Sea Wine Grass among the players.
  • Rogue deconstructed the Dragon's Horn and found its limited bloodline information insufficient to create a complete system for players.
  • Zered recovered among the Sugyur and explained that he had made the Burial Ship self-destruct to keep it out of Candlewood Island's hands.
  • Zered taunted the Sugyur for fearing the candle flame could break their curse, then asked them for better ideas.

Ch. 614Pawn without a stake

Zered resisted the Sugyurs’ demand that he accept a new contract for the Burial Ship, but they used the torture of a pure soul to force his hand. He ordered them to give the soul a quick death, leaving his response to the contract unresolved.

  • Zered dismissed the Sugyurs’ threats and challenged them to replace him as captain of the Burial Ship.
  • The Sugyurs argued over whether they could risk replacing Zered, then offered him a new task and a reduced soul sacrifice in exchange for cutting ties with Candlefire.
  • Zered mocked their contract and refused to sign it, pointing out that they were the ones who needed him.
  • A Sugyur brought out the father soul from the Burial Ship’s prison and tortured him to pressure Zered into cooperating.
  • Zered told the Sugyurs to give the father soul a quick death.

Ch. 615Fallen Fire Twilight's New Mission

Burton negotiated cooperation between Candlewood Island and Sea Forest, then agreed to help Zien and Zorlo investigate their past. Meanwhile, Wang Dao kept hunting players and accepted a new mission from the figure behind Fallen Fire Twilight.

  • Burton reached an agreement with the Governor of Sea Forest on cooperation, procurement, and intelligence.
  • Zien recognized Burton as a mage from Mithrilos Academy and asked him to help investigate an unknown past; Burton promised to share any discoveries from Candlewood Island.
  • Zorlo explained that he wanted to learn why he had awakened in a coffin and survived among the dead, while the Governor left them to pursue their search.
  • Wang Dao continued killing other players with the Storyteller's help and collected another reward from Fallen Fire Twilight.
  • The tin can offered Wang Dao a nonviolent, highly rewarding mission, and Wang Dao accepted after asking for the task and its reward.

Ch. 616Benefits and Trust

Fallen Fire Twilight planned to use Li Miao to damage Candlefire’s reputation, while Li Miao settled Aiver into a room on Candlewood Island. The chapter ended with Brother Mangzi spotting Aiver and joking that Li Miao had brought back a burden.

  • Players debated Fallen Fire Twilight’s hunting mission, but studio members warned that repeated missions had not earned them faction access and that the mission might be a trap.
  • White-Jar Fallen Fire User argued that a Saint of Blazing Fire motivated by profit could be trusted, and the Acting God approved his plan to have Li Miao destroy a Wandering Fires camp and potentially board the Twilight Ark.
  • Nonia showed Li Miao a room for Aiver and said the Candle Keepers had not yet decided what role he would have on Candlewood Island.
  • Li Miao helped Aiver settle in, then took him along and met Brother Mangzi and a Little Familiar Lion.
  • Brother Mangzi laughed at Li Miao for bringing back a burden from the dynamic storyline.

Ch. 617Doing Well

Li Miao discovered that Aiver could sense an unfamiliar presence in Ligardel’s soul, but Aiver could not remove it without risking Ligardel’s life. Meanwhile, Wang Dao followed the Storyteller’s advice and destroyed the wanderers’ camp as ordered by Fallen Fire Twilight, leaving its inhabitants facing death.

  • Aiver sensed that part of Ligardel’s soul seemed to belong to someone else, but said that trying to remove it would scatter Ligardel’s soul.
  • Li Miao considered whether Aiver might be able to help if his powers grew stronger, then left the question for a later discussion with the Storyteller.
  • The Storyteller advised Wang Dao to destroy the camp Fallen Fire Twilight had targeted, avoid unnecessary actions, and stay true to the villainous persona he had cultivated.
  • Wang Dao used the Scorched Shard to reach a valley and attacked the wanderers who tried to drive him away.
  • Wang Dao destroyed the inscribed stone pillar that sustained the wanderers, leaving them in despair.

Ch. 618Clumsy Test

Wang Dao defeated the Pothead Fallen Fire User’s clone after it tried to take the wanderers, then recognized that the encounter was a test. The main Pothead Fallen Fire User paid Wang Dao his reward and offered to let him go to their agreed destination if he answered a question.

  • The Pothead Fallen Fire User’s clone used the Sound of Knocking Cans to lead the wanderers toward the ash vortex, but Wang Dao attacked it with Saint's Fire Aspect when it tried to take them without his permission.
  • The clone tried to escape through the Scorched Shard, but its main body blocked the gate and ordered it to calm Wang Dao’s anger and protect the Candle Spirit’s spoils of war.
  • Wang Dao destroyed the clone, then told the wanderers he had destroyed their curse-inscribed stone pillars in exchange for the Pothead’s promises.
  • A wanderer questioned why Wang Dao had saved them, and Wang Dao called the test pathetic and demanded that whoever was testing him come out.
  • The main Pothead Fallen Fire User appeared, knocked the questioning wanderer down, gave Wang Dao his rewards, and offered him passage to their agreed destination if he answered a question.

Ch. 619Gaze? A Boon!

Wang Dao rejected the Pothead Fallen Fire User’s proposal, accepted his overdue reward, and left the devastated wanderers behind before Clemo arrived to help them. In Vitra, Niuniu and Mushroom investigated Niuniu’s Gaze of Gairo curse, which had become a lucrative source of materials for making Soft Coating Liquid.

  • Wang Dao refused the Pothead Fallen Fire User’s deal until he received the Key in the Pot, then answered with a remark about bottom-dwelling insects and departed.
  • The Pothead Fallen Fire User pondered Wang Dao’s words and vanished, leaving the wanderers grieving the shattered Rune Stone Pillar.
  • Clemo emerged through a spatial rift and offered help to the stranded wanderers.
  • Niuniu and Mushroom entered Vitra to investigate the fish monsters attracted by Niuniu’s Gaze of Gairo.
  • Niuniu explained that the monsters dropped Soft Slime Balls, which Mushroom could combine with Basic Coating Solution to make Soft Coating Liquid for underwater combat.

Ch. 620Fast or Not?

Niuniu and Mushroom went to the Shallow Death Sea to kill its boss and investigate how [Gaze of Gairo] caused slime monsters to drop Soft Slime Balls. After Mushroom defeated the Turbulent Manta Ray, he revealed he had bought the current-resisting accessory they had hoped to obtain as a drop.

  • Niuniu explained that monsters spawned under [Gaze of Gairo] often dropped Soft Slime Balls, and Mushroom agreed they could turn the curse into a business opportunity.
  • Niuniu insisted they kill the Turbulent Manta Ray before searching underwater, and the two crossed the Shallow Death Sea’s powerful currents.
  • Mushroom stopped Niuniu from diving first, then prepared his weapon with Soft Adhesive Liquid while Niuniu considered a possible new build.
  • Mushroom dove down and quickly killed the Turbulent Manta Ray, then returned to the ship and tossed its tail onto the deck.
  • Niuniu noticed the currents had weakened, and Mushroom told him the manta ray had not dropped the current-resisting accessory but that he had bought one.

Ch. 621Unknown Creatures Brought by the Curse

Niuniu and Mushroom investigated how [Gaze of Gairo] spawned and altered monsters in the Shallow Death Sea. After learning the curse’s rules, they found a hard-shelled creature that grew by consuming Marine Organisms, and Niuniu chose to let it keep molting.

  • Niuniu and Mushroom entered the sea to study [Gaze of Gairo] and observed that soft-bodied monsters appeared outside Niuniu’s view before attacking him.
  • Niuniu had Mushroom watch from the edge of his field of vision, where Mushroom saw monsters spawn from translucent mucus and attach to nearby Marine Organisms.
  • Niuniu and Mushroom discovered that some powerful monsters felt disgust toward Niuniu and encountered a hard-shelled creature that consumed nearby Marine Organisms.
  • Niuniu read the creature’s description, learned it could absorb the flame fuel of Remnant Creatures to molt and grow stronger, and told Mushroom not to kill it.
  • Niuniu and Mushroom kept studying the curse and clearing soft-bodied monsters while the hard-shelled monster continued to grow.

Ch. 622It Seems Like It's Going to Die

Niuniu and Mushroom watched the Hard-shelled Monster grow into a Fire Offering Lifeform before it ran short of food and began to die. After finding an Unknown Tissue Relic in its shattered shell, Niuniu left, while Rogue became interested in locating Gairo and the mysterious power behind the monster.

  • The Hard-shelled Monster molted several more times, growing tentacles and eyes, reaching Fluorescent Fire, and producing whispers that made Niuniu hungry.
  • The monster frantically devoured nearby creatures, but its food supply ran out, and it withdrew its tentacles as its vitality declined.
  • Niuniu and Mushroom tested the monster and realized it had not entered hibernation; when its shell began cracking, they attacked and killed it.
  • Niuniu found an Unknown Tissue Relic inside the shattered shell, then left with Mushroom after deciding he had accomplished his main goal.
  • Rogue analyzed the relic and concluded that the monster’s power was unrelated to Gairo, then resolved to find Gairo’s coordinates and investigate its nest.

Ch. 623Twilight Ark

Wang Dao used the Key in the Pot to enter Twilight Ark, a strange island within the darkness, where a pot-headed guide explained its rules and directed him toward the summit. As Wang Dao headed there, a haggard man caught up with him.

  • Storyteller examined the Key in the Pot and advised Wang Dao to preserve his persona when visiting Fallen Fire Twilight.
  • Wang Dao activated the Key in the Pot with Warfire in an unanchored dungeon and entered a portal to the darkness.
  • Wang Dao arrived at Twilight Ark, where a hidden observer watched him emerge.
  • A broken-pot-headed man welcomed Wang Dao and explained that believers, selfish people, and butchers could stay aboard if they contributed to the eternal future.
  • Wang Dao set off toward the summit to find a clay pot, and a haggard man caught up to him and asked him to wait.

Ch. 624Xinke the Hunchback

Wang Dao paid Xinke for information about the Twilight Ark and had him lead the way to the Assembly Area. As they approached, they encountered a burly freak carrying a mutilated woman’s corpse, whose eyes fixed on them.

  • Xinke introduced himself to Wang Dao and offered information about the Ark in exchange for flame fuel.
  • Xinke explained that the Ark allowed deception and killing, and Wang Dao decided to visit the Assembly Area despite the danger.
  • Xinke described the cellar’s healing jars and their effects, as well as the Twilight Altar, Lookout Post, and Fallen Fire Secret Hall.
  • Wang Dao asked about Xinke’s faith and hunched body, but did not press him when he declined to explain.
  • Wang Dao and Xinke continued along the ash-covered path and saw a burly freak carrying a mutilated woman’s corpse.
  • The freak chewed noisily and fixed its strange eyes on Wang Dao and Xinke.

Ch. 625Just as Expected!

Wang Dao killed Rouba after finding a necklace resembling Bloody Fang on the corpse of a woman Rouba had eaten, then ordered Xinke to lead him to where she had been bought. Xinke revealed that Yebian had forced him to gather flame fuel by threatening his family and using a Curse Seal, and Wang Dao learned that Yebian worshipped an evil god.

  • Rouba offered Wang Dao food and set down the woman's corpse when Wang Dao showed interest in it.
  • Wang Dao found a necklace resembling Bloody Fang on the woman's corpse and killed Rouba in anger after realizing the woman could no longer answer questions about it.
  • Wang Dao cremated the woman's remains and told Xinke to take him to the place where Rouba had bought her.
  • Xinke confessed that Yebian had taken his mother and two younger sisters hostage and placed a Curse Seal on him to force him to bring back flame fuel.
  • Wang Dao teased Xinke by claiming he had planned to kill him, then asked about Yebian as they traveled through the crowded Twilight Ark.
  • Xinke explained that Yebian was a legless wanderer who worshipped an evil god and gained the Curse Seal's power and guidance; one day, a nightmare came to Xinke's home.
