A crazed transcendent carrying a Sealed Item.
A highly dangerous out-of-control individual.
Those were the words Hu Danian had used to describe the man in front of them last night, but only upon meeting him did Gu Shen realize that the man's appearance was even more shocking than those terms suggested... a filthy, reeking black robe shrouded his entire body, while his exposed skin was withered and pale. He looked like a corpse—more like a ghost floating above the ground.
Calling him a wandering ghost would have been entirely fitting.
If people saw him walking down the street, they would feel as though they had encountered a ghost in broad daylight.
Qu Shui was startled as well. Hiding behind Gu Shen, she saw the owner of that shriveled hand and whispered in a tiny voice, "Little Gu Doctor... I think... I've seen this person before..."
"Relax. I'm here."
Gu Shen remained perfectly calm.
He glanced at the hand wedged in the crack of the door. It seemed the man would not leave unless he was let inside.
Judging by that cold, resolute manner, even if Gu Shen slammed the door shut with all his strength, the man probably would not let go.
So Gu Shen simply stopped trying to close the door. Instead, he opened it wide and made way for the hunchbacked man. "Come in."
This caught the hunchbacked man off guard.
He slowly stepped inside, warily surveying the surroundings.
"Wait here."
Gu Shen said it lightly. He took Qu Shui to the western partition. The girl had not slept all night, and her face was full of exhaustion and terror. Just as she was about to say something, she heard Gu Shen's gentle voice.
"Look at me."
Qu Shui instinctively raised her head and met Gu Shen's eyes.
