Background & History

Descent from the Mountain

Lin Yu descended from the mountains as a highly confident young martial artist and was hired by Ye Changkong to secretly protect Ye Mengyao. Because Ye Mengyao refused close male protection due to androphobia, he was instead placed in her school as a classmate responsible for her safety on the commute 4.

At Shilan School, he immediately developed an interest in Ye Mengyao, Yu Wan’er, and several other girls. Ye Mengyao rejected his attempts at introduction and found his behavior arrogant and irritating, while Jiang Che became his principal rival 5 7. Lin Yu’s first confrontation with Jiang Che escalated into a fight and police detention; he also made a poor impression on officer Wang Yanran by flirting during interrogation 8 9.

Lost Opportunity and Public Humiliation

Lin Yu’s master had directed him toward a Cave Abode in the West Mountain area, supposedly containing an inheritance, a Jade Pendant, and a lightness-skill manual. Jiang Che reached the site first, leaving Lin Yu to complete humiliating electronic-door challenges only to find exam-preparation materials and a note instructing him to study rather than chase women 13 17.

His setbacks continued at school. A manipulated self-criticism assembly broadcast recordings of him barking and revealing embarrassing secrets to the entire student body, leaving him publicly humiliated 19. When he confronted Jiang Che over the Cave Abode’s treasures, he discovered that Jiang Che had also reached An Jin, preventing him from taking the Jade Pendant by force 20.

Underground Boxing and Injury

After being expelled from school and losing the Su Family’s support, Lin Yu entered the underground boxing circuit under the alias Emperor Yu. He won nine consecutive matches and intended to use the arena to build wealth and connections before challenging Jiang Che 65.

During his match with former champion Xu Pojun, Lin Yu broke through to late An Jin. However, he was drugged with an aphrodisiac, blinded with lime powder, and struck in the groin after losing his guard 66. Surgery left him with one testicle removed and the other degenerating, while a mysterious suited man placed him under a 150,000-yuan debt arrangement 70.

Yu Weiwei’s Treatment

After escaping confinement, Lin Yu went to the hospital to treat Yu Wan’er’s adoptive mother, Yu Weiwei, hoping that saving her would earn Yu Wan’er’s affection. Using acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, he restored roughly seventy to eighty percent of Yu Weiwei’s kidney function in one session and prescribed a three-month course of medicine for her complete recovery 108.

Jiang Che subsequently arranged for Ai Shouying to impersonate Lin Xiaotian and claim credit for the cure. When Lin Yu tried to prove his role, Yu Weiwei pretended to be asleep rather than testify, and Lin Yu was forcibly removed from the hospital 111.

Transformation and Blackening

Repeated defeat, imprisonment, injury, and humiliation caused Lin Yu’s mentality to deteriorate. Brother Qiang became deeply attached to him during his captivity, later arranging his gender-reassignment surgery. Lin Yu ultimately accepted a feminine identity, developed romantic attachment to Brother Qiang, and became fiercely protective of him 166 174 197.

After his transformation, Lin Yu became increasingly bitter and violent. He assisted Brother Qiang in torturing Su Han and Ye Liangchen, using an internal-energy-infused whip against the latter 130 197. His former masters, Lin Xiaotian and Zhou Xuemei, became unwilling to protect him after learning that he had offended the Capital City Jiang Family 190 195.

Lin Xiaotian eventually severed their master-disciple relationship. This act severed Lin Yu’s destiny and stripped him of his Protagonist’s Aura, reducing him from a major threat to someone Jiang Che considered harmless 190 191.

Cultivator Academy and the Nine Heavens

Lin Yu later enrolled at the Cultivator Academy, where he had reached the mid Heavenly Origin Stage. Although he admitted hating Jiang Che, he accepted that his destiny was gone and sought Jiang Che’s help in finding Brother Qiang, who had disappeared into the Nine Heavens 580 581.

Driven by his attachment to Brother Qiang, Lin Yu entered the Nine Heavens through a spatial rift. Captured by the Joyful Union Sect, he bound the Strongest Wrench System, used its initial Martial God Experience Card, and killed all of his captors 752.

Following his confinement and transformation, Lin Yu became more twisted and vindictive, but also more emotionally dependent on Brother Qiang. He resented his masters for failing to help him at his lowest point, defended Brother Qiang against Zhou Xuemei, and eventually accepted that resistance against Jiang Che was futile 166 197 581.
