Indeed. If all three members of a team used the same Type and the same Deck, they could coordinate seamlessly when taking over for one another.
Everyone could freely use the Monsters and Back Row left behind by the previous teammate. And if someone in the team felt they could no longer continue, they could set the resources in their hand for the teammates behind them to use. The resources left by the previous teammate could be guaranteed the most effective use.
That would be utterly impossible if the three members used entirely unrelated Decks. For example, if one used a Warrior Type Deck and another used a Dragon-Type Deck, then all the Warrior Type support cards in the previous duelist's hand would be dead cards to the teammate taking over, unable to offer any help at all.
