"Appear, Number 9: Dyson Sphere!!!"
The two monsters vanished into an Xyz vortex, and V's declaration was deafening. In that instant, Joey felt even the office windows trembling, as though the entire building beneath his feet were shaking.
But when he looked around and saw that the Field across from him was still completely empty, he could not help but feel bewildered.
"Where's your monster?"
Joey did not understand.
Had the summon failed? Why had the two monsters used as materials disappeared from the other side of the Field, yet nothing happened?
But the next moment, his pupils contracted slightly, as though he had realized something.
Slowly and stiffly, Joey turned his head toward the window.
Then he saw the monster V had summoned.
Or rather, if that thing could still be called a "monster."
The night sky, which should have been filled with stars, was now completely covered by an enormous golden wheel. It seemed to be assembled from countless golden wings, each one coursed through by glowing veins that pulsed rhythmically like blood vessels in a human body. Those streams of light intertwined into complex geometric patterns, sometimes blazing like lightning, sometimes flickering like breathing. Most suffocating of all was its sheer scale. Looking straight out from the thirty-eighth-floor window, he could not even see the edge of the golden disc. It was as though it had suddenly replaced the entire sky.
At the very center of the wheel floated a pitch-black sphere. All the golden pathways converged upon it, forming web-like shackles across its surface. Whenever an especially bright current of light flashed past, the circuitry throughout the building let out a mournful whine, and every computer screen simultaneously filled with garbled characters, as if all the electronic devices in the city were submitting to it.
