The golden and red D-Wheels raced one after the other through the tunnel of time and space, their tires seemingly scraping rainbow-colored sparks from its passage. The tunnel walls spun around them like a kaleidoscope, every fragment seeming to reflect the silhouette of some Parallel World.
The D-Wheels burst from the narrow tunnel, as though breaking free of the endless gravity dragging at them. After a spectacular drift, they trailed a long stream of translucent sparks across the field before slowing to a stop in an empty city block.
Yusei removed his helmet, his forehead already drenched in sweat. It was the first time his modified D-Wheel had hit the road, and also his first time personally riding a D-Wheel across dimensions. The strain on both his mind and body had been considerable.
Kira stopped as well and patted him on the shoulder. "You'll get used to it."
"Thanks. I'm fine."
Yusei got off his bike and looked around.
"This... is another world?"
The streets of a small town lay beneath a starry sky. It looked to be late at night, and there was not a single person in sight.
"What, is it different from how you imagined a Different Dimension?" Kira smiled. "You didn't think every other world had inverted physical laws and was completely unlike the Human World you know, did you?"
"No, not exactly. But it is different from what I expected," Yusei admitted.
For a moment, he had even wondered whether he had truly left the Synchro Dimension, because this place still looked like modern human civilization. But upon closer inspection, he realized that while it felt faintly familiar, its architecture was clearly more old-fashioned than that of his own world, like the aesthetic of the previous century.
The midnight wind carried over a crumpled newspaper.
