At those words, everyone's expressions turned solemn.
"Ultimate secret? But isn't Professor Chronos's ace Ancient Gear Golem?" Sho Marufuji asked in confusion.
"No." Misawa's expression was grave as he said in a low voice, "Ancient Gear has another ace, one said to be the evolution of Ancient Gear Golem—the true final ace.
"Even among the already rare users of Ancient Gear Decks in the Dueling World, however, there are only a handful of duelists capable of wielding that power."
"That powerful!?" Sho Marufuji looked at Chronos in astonishment. "Coach actually has such an incredible card?"
"It's only my guess," Misawa said. "But ever since we enrolled, no one has ever seen the professor use it. An existence beyond Ancient Gear Golem may simply be a legend."
Indeed, in the anime, Chronos's ace throughout most of the early story had only been Ancient Gear Golem. It was not until much later that he revealed that so-called strongest ace beyond Ancient Gear, using it in his final duel against Judai Yuki during the last semester. When he summoned it, he had even said, "I never thought I'd need this card against a student."
Many fans later took that as proof that Chronos had held back during the entrance exam duel against Judai.
