It was true that she enjoyed enchanting her opponent's monsters and making them her own, but when the opponent voluntarily handed one over, something still felt off.

"Dark World Mentor - Ceruli's effect," Kira said. "When this card is Special Summoned by the effect of a 'Dark World' card, your opponent chooses one card from their hand and discards it."

The queen frowned. "The point is to make me discard a card from my hand?"

"No, no, it's 'your opponent chooses one card from their hand and discards it.'"

Kira added with a smile.

The Queen froze for half a second before suddenly understanding.

Right. The Mentor had been placed on her field, so from the Mentor's perspective, "opponent" actually referred to Kira.

At first glance, this card seemed utterly pointless. Its effect gave the opponent a free monster while also costing you a card from your own hand. Taken outside its archetype, it was pure trash that crippled its user; most people would rack their brains and still fail to understand why such a Mole Card needed to exist.

But even the Queen immediately realized that within the Dark World archetype, this seemingly meaningless card suddenly had a purpose.

Dark World monsters all triggered their effects by being discarded from the hand by a card effect.

And if that discard effect was activated by the opponent, an even stronger hidden effect would be triggered.

Dark World Mentor not only let its controller discard a card, but even defected to the enemy camp before activating that effect, manually turning it into "the opponent's effect." Thus, any Dark World card triggered by the Mentor became twice as powerful.
