Blue Star, Huaxia.
Li Mu Chuan sat on the edge of the rooftop, looking at the sparse crowd below with an indescribably wistful expression.
Meanwhile, the people below pointed at Li Mu Chuan and whispered among themselves.
"Is that young man planning to jump?"
"I don't know. I noticed him a while ago. He's been up there the whole time and hasn't come down. I already called the police."
More and more people gathered, and some even took out their phones to film Li Mu Chuan standing on the rooftop.
A few minutes later, several police cars and fire trucks arrived at once. The firefighters immediately began laying out an air cushion below.
"Young man, if something happened in your life, talk to us. We'll do everything we can to help you. Don't do anything rash!"
A somewhat older police officer spoke to Li Mu Chuan gently.
Meanwhile, in corners Li Mu Chuan could not see, several firefighters were looking for a position from which they could pull him back from the edge.
Li Mu Chuan glanced at the officers and smiled faintly. "Please call some reporters. I want to say a few things. The more media outlets, the better."
"Young man, it's the same if you tell us. If you've been wronged somehow, you can tell us about it."
As he spoke, the officer quietly took another step forward.
"Stop. Don't come any closer. I don't have much time left. Please get the media here quickly."
Li Mu Chuan stopped him, then looked down. The crowd below had grown dense, and many people were still filming him nonstop with their phones.
"Alright, alright. We'll call the media right away. Just don't do anything rash!"
The officer had been thoroughly frightened by Li Mu Chuan's words. That line about not having much time left gave him quite a scare.
From what the man meant, Li Mu Chuan seemed ready to jump at any moment. That would not do.
In fact, Li Mu Chuan did not even need to ask. Quite a few media outlets were already rushing over.
After all, it had been a long time since anyone had jumped from a building. An attempted suicide like this was bound to cause a sensation.
Sure enough, several minutes later, the media swarmed in and headed up to the rooftop together.
The police were still uneasy, so they specifically warned the reporters not to provoke Li Mu Chuan.
Watching the media set up their recording equipment, Li Mu Chuan checked the time. Good.
There were less than ten minutes left, but that was enough for him to say a few things.
After having them toss him a megaphone, Li Mu Chuan tested it with a few "hello, hello"s to make sure it worked.
The police in the distance immediately darkened. Why did this guy look like he was holding a fan meeting?
"I'm sorry for wasting a little of your world's time and resources, but the time is almost here, and I can't hold it in anymore."
"Today, I'm coming clean. I'm done pretending—I'm a transmigrator!"
Holding the megaphone, Li Mu Chuan spoke to everyone.
Hearing that, everyone froze before their faces twitched.
"I thought he was someone having a hard time in life, maybe heartbroken, or buried in debt with nowhere left to turn. Never thought we'd run into a lunatic."
"He's kind of handsome, but there's clearly something wrong with his head."
Everyone shook their heads, rendered speechless.
The reporters exchanged looks, remembering the warning they had just received not to provoke Li Mu Chuan.
"Could you come down and talk? It's unsafe sitting there. Whatever you want to say, we'll listen."
The reporter also felt rather unlucky and was already preparing to have someone stop the recording.
What was there to interview about a lunatic?
Seeing their expressions, Li Mu Chuan naturally knew they did not believe a word he said, but he did not care that much.
"I know you don't believe me, but that's fine. I'll talk, and you listen."
"I come from a country almost identical to this world's, except your country is somewhat less advanced. In my country, we can pay with our phones when we go out.
Cash is rarely used anymore, online shopping is extremely convenient, nuclear power plants have entered the fourth generation, and our country has begun building its own space station.
But I'm sorry. I never expected to come to this world, so I didn't bring any technology with me. I can't help you in those areas."
By the end, Li Mu Chuan looked a little embarrassed.
He truly had not known he would come to a world like this. But even if he had, technologies like those were not something Li Mu Chuan could access.
Hearing him, everyone present looked at one another, not knowing what to say for a moment.
The way he said it made it sound strangely convincing.
"You said your world can use mobile payments? How does that work?"
A slender female reporter asked in confusion. Yet after asking, she secretly mocked herself. Why did she sound as though she actually believed him?
"Digitize cash, then develop a digital wallet app. Convert currency into numbers and conduct transactions through your phone."
Li Mu Chuan gave a simple answer.
After the female reporter asked that question, the scene fell silent.
No one believed Li Mu Chuan, yet asking how he had become a transmigrator or what his world was like felt far too embarrassing.
Thus, the scene became quiet.
Under everyone's watchful gazes, Li Mu Chuan suddenly felt a little awkward.
He had misjudged how believable his words would sound.
Fortunately, the time was almost up anyway.
Li Mu Chuan waited a moment. Seeing everyone silently staring at him, he seemed to realize something and turned around.
A firefighter had somehow climbed up from below and reached the edge of the rooftop.
Li Mu Chuan smiled at him, flashing a set of white teeth. "Be careful."
The firefighter was immediately bewildered. The guy had spotted him. Shouldn't he have reacted violently? Why hadn't he?
Yet Li Mu Chuan raised the megaphone again and continued, "My time is up. I'm going back to my world. If I have another chance to come here, I hope I can cooperate with your country."
As soon as Li Mu Chuan finished speaking, a pearly white glow erupted from his body. His entire body turned into specks of starlight and vanished before everyone's eyes.
Everyone froze, their gazes blank. Then their hairs stood on end, and their bodies began to tremble.
The firefighter who had climbed onto the rooftop instinctively reached out to grab him, but all he touched was the fading starlight.
"Th-this guy really was a transmigrator?"
At that moment, the same absurd thought surfaced in everyone's mind.
