Night slowly fell.
Li Mu Chuan still had no idea what had happened, and he did not dare step outside at all.
He had eaten quite a lot at noon, but by now, Li Mu Chuan was still starting to feel hungry.
That feeling left Li Mu Chuan deeply vexed.
He had experienced hunger before. Whenever he saw a tree, he had practically wanted to take a bite out of it.
At this rate, Li Mu Chuan felt that he would have to go out and look for food tomorrow.
Prolonged hunger could leave a person weak and in poor condition.
That would only make things more dangerous.
While Li Mu Chuan still had the strength, it was safer to search for food ahead of time.
Looking out the window, he could not see a single trace of human life in the vast city. It was as though everyone in the city had died, leaving behind utter silence.
That silence sent chills down his spine.
Everything around him was dark.
Something seemed to shroud the night sky, obscuring even the moon.
Li Mu Chuan wrapped the blanket tighter around himself and forced himself to fall asleep.
That way, he could wake up in good spirits tomorrow.
At the door, Li Mu Chuan had made a simple warning device with rope. If someone came in, it would pull a cup beside it down onto the floor.
Once Li Mu Chuan had fallen into a deep sleep, the room returned to silence.
A night passed, and the horizon gradually brightened.
Li Mu Chuan opened his eyes and decided not to sleep anymore.
He had not slept well last night, waking with a start several times.
Li Mu Chuan went to the bathroom and cautiously turned the faucet. Not a single drop of water came out.
Even if there had been water, though, Li Mu Chuan might not have dared to drink it.
Once it was a little brighter outside, Li Mu Chuan took the steel rod he had picked up yesterday and found a fruit knife in the kitchen.
After firmly taping it to the end of the rod, Li Mu Chuan went downstairs with his homemade weapon.
The utter silence around him weighed heavily on Li Mu Chuan.
"Damn it. If there really are zombies, they might as well come out and let me see them so I can be prepared."
Li Mu Chuan could not help muttering.
It was the unknown danger that truly terrified people. If he actually saw what the danger was, he could at least make some preparations.
After crossing the street, Li Mu Chuan's eyes suddenly lit up.
A convenience store had appeared not far ahead.
The convenience store's entrance had been smashed to pieces, as if people had fought over it.
Li Mu Chuan's heart sank slightly, but he still walked over.
After checking around and confirming there was no danger, Li Mu Chuan stood in a Safe Zone and looked inside the convenience store.
The shelves had all been emptied. Only things like towels and washbasins lay scattered to one side.
There was no food or drink in sight, and a layer of dust covered the floor.
It looked as though no one had come here in a long time.
Li Mu Chuan picked up a small stone, wondering whether he should throw it inside and see if it drew anything out.
But after hesitating for a moment, Li Mu Chuan gave up on the idea.
If he really drew something out, he would be the one in trouble.
With that in mind, Li Mu Chuan slowly backed away a few steps and left the place.
"Looks like the supplies here have already been searched through. I wonder if there's anything left elsewhere."
"And is there nuclear radiation or something? If there is, without a detector, I could get contaminated without even knowing it..."
Li Mu Chuan felt increasingly uneasy. At a time like this, he could not find a single living person.
There was no electricity, either.
Otherwise, he might have had a chance to learn something about what was going on.
He also had no idea where he was now.
The more he thought about it, the more his head hurt.
After walking ahead for a while, Li Mu Chuan spotted a familiar sign.
"RT-Mart Supermarket."
In such a huge supermarket, there had to be at least some food inside, right?
As long as I can find some Compressed Biscuits and take some Mineral Water, I can ration them and hide somewhere until the sixteen days are up.
Li Mu Chuan looked at the large supermarket ahead and steadied himself.
Then he slowly headed toward it.
A moment later, he saw items scattered throughout the supermarket. The shelves nearest the entrance had already been emptied.
Not even a single piece of chewing gum remained.
Further in, all the rice and similar goods had been carried away. Even the rice inside the glass display cases was gone.
The refrigerators were empty too.
Li Mu Chuan felt miserable at the sight. Even a supermarket this large had nothing left.
Could it be that the other supermarkets had no food left either?
If that was the case, he might as well search through some apartments and see whether there were any instant noodles or something.
With that thought, Li Mu Chuan turned to leave, only to suddenly notice what looked like a packet trapped beneath a shelf nearby.
Li Mu Chuan cautiously stepped forward and pulled the small item out.
"Chocolate!"
Seeing the dark wrapper, Li Mu Chuan felt a flicker of joy.
At least he had found something to eat. That was better than finding nothing.
He put away the chocolate, looked around, and after confirming there was nothing else edible, could only leave slowly.
Looking over the vast city, its silent stillness filled him with an inexplicable dread.
Li Mu Chuan held his breath and continued forward.
When he reached a corner, he was praying that he would find something this time.
Then Li Mu Chuan's entire body suddenly froze.
At the corner ahead, a group of people seemed to be swaying their bodies aimlessly.
Their clothes were tattered, and their bodies broken, yet they showed no sign of feeling anything.
Li Mu Chuan could even see several of them dragging their intestines along, while a few zombie-like figures picked up the intestines and ate them.
Li Mu Chuan's face went pale. Looking at the dark mass of zombies, he took a deep breath and backed away several steps.
As he retreated, he carefully watched where he stepped, avoiding any sound.
Only after he had finally backed out of their sight did the hairs on Li Mu Chuan's body stand on end.
"How is this really a world like a zombie apocalypse?!"
Li Mu Chuan panted heavily. Seeing that group of zombies from so close had shocked him immensely.
It was nothing like seeing them in a movie.
The pressure and terror were overwhelming.
After thinking it over, Li Mu Chuan decided that he still needed to find food. If he had enough food, he could try to figure out a way to leave the city.
The outskirts had fewer people, so perhaps they would be safer.
If he truly could not leave, he could at least find a relatively safe place.
With that in mind, Li Mu Chuan gritted his teeth, changed routes, and continued forward.
But what Li Mu Chuan had not expected was this.
After walking several hundred meters, he found another group of zombies packed around the next corner.
Li Mu Chuan quickly changed routes again.
Yet after cautiously trying several roads, it seemed that he had been surrounded by a zombie horde.
There was not a single route he could take out.
Even the least crowded route was blocked by thirty or forty zombies.
