Soul Communication differed from the exceedingly rare telepathy. It was a resonance that only Dark-type Pokémon could form with Sato.
By opening their souls to each other, they could explore one another's memories.
In Sato's mind, Tyranitar's life unfolded before his eyes like a slideshow.
A dark green Pokemon Egg lay in a dim rock cave. Unbeknownst When, a tiny crack appeared on the Pokemon Egg, revealing a shining blue light—the light of hatching.
After the young Larvitar drowsily opened its sleepy eyes, it neither cried nor panicked.
It quietly looked around. Then, after turning its head and crunching up the broken eggshell, it rubbed its still-hungry little red belly and looked at the dark rocks around it.
"Crunch... crunch crunch... crunch."
When it was hungry, it gnawed on rocks. When it was full, it rested. As a Rock- and Ground-type Pokémon, Larvitar did not need water. The dark stones were its best food.
Every time it woke up, Larvitar diligently searched the ordinary rocks for those dark stones, then crunched them up.
Sometimes it went up, sometimes down; sometimes it veered left, sometimes shifted right. For some reason, Larvitar's Small Body could always eat rocks several times its own size.
Day after day, year after year, when Larvitar had spent a long time chewing upward through black rocks, a ray of light suddenly appeared on its face.
This was Larvitar's first time feeling sunlight. After completely drilling out of the Cave Entrance, it saw green grass, blue skies, mountains, rivers, lakes, and Living Beings beyond the scenery! Pokémon were densely packed in the forest, so struggles for survival could break out at any time. Larvitar learned for the first time just how painful Tackle could be, and Water Gun was even more terrifying.
It learned to fight back! The battle talent in its bones Was Stimulated. Larvitar quickly made its opponents feel the terror of a pseudo-legendary Pokémon. Even in its Larval Form, the dignity of a pseudo-legendary could not be insulted.
Again and Again, it fought not for tastier berries, nor for a broader territory, but simply In Order To Let its opponents admit, I'm stronger than you!
Then, Larvitar evolved. Its silver white armor gave it boundless defense, and ordinary attacks could no longer hurt it. Yet it was always sleepy. In a daze, it Thought Of its "home."
It sank underground once more. Pupitar, having restrained its aura, continued devouring black rocks. It ate when awake and slept when full, feeling as relaxed and at peace as it had when it was first born.
Unbeknownst When, Pupitar's final sleep lasted a full month. When it awoke, it was greeted by dazzling Evolution Light!
Desert Tyrant, Tyranitar!
It began Its Own "journey," fighting all the way without fear. The scars on its armor grew more numerous, and it became stronger and stronger! Finally, under the moonlight one night, Tyranitar defeated the strongest opponent in its territory and Got On the leader's throne! It became king, respected by all the Pokémon around it. It began to enjoy such treatment. It wanted to guard its territory and protect Its Own subordinates, so it continued fighting!
The scenes suddenly flashed by as though fast-forwarded. When they slowed again, Tyranitar's gaze had somehow become infinitely gentle and mild.
Looking further on, it was holding a dark green Pokemon Egg in its hands. The dependence born of their shared bloodline was so warm that even Sato, merely watching, could feel it.
To hatch its child, Tyranitar resolutely threw away its position as leader and Returned To the underground, searching for the black rocks Most Suitable for the growth of its kind as it quietly waited for its child to be born.
At this moment, Sato also discovered that Tyranitar had grown old. Its reactions were slower, its appetite smaller, and its armor no longer as hard as before. Its fierce eyes had become Gentle and Mild, and it gradually stopped being so irritable.
And then, Sato Appeared In Front Of its memories...
While Sato lamented Tyranitar's thrilling, extraordinary life of conquest and slaughter, Tyranitar fell into shock, because it had seen Sato's greatest secret.
Rebirth!
The black Dark Power slowly dissipated. Tyranitar and Sato both came back to their senses. Sato's eyes gleamed with admiration, while Tyranitar's emotions were unusually complicated.
It learned that it only had two years left to live, but it also learned of Larvitar's growth over the next twenty years. Not only would it be captured by a human, but it would also be Tyranitar itself that entrusted Larvitar to that human's care.
Was it because of that mysterious power? Tyranitar did not know. But after learning that it would not live long, it felt that perhaps this was not so bad.
"Lari?"
Tyranitar lifted Larvitar down from On His Shoulder. Looking at the child in its hands, it was especially reluctant to part with it, yet it slowly placed it on the ground.
Though Larvitar was small, it was unbelievably composed. When it heard its father tell it to follow a human, it was only slightly surprised. Then it slowly walked towards Sato and stood still beside him.
"Roar!"
Another deafening roar rang out, but it carried deep reluctance. Without looking back, Tyranitar disappeared into the underground cave.
"Larvitar, please take care of me from now on!"
"Lari!"
There was a trace of moisture at the corner of Larvitar's eyes, but it earnestly and steadily placed its little hand in Sato's outstretched palm.
As steadfast as a rock!
"Let's Go!" A slight smile tugged at Sato's lips. Calling Zorua and Haunter over, he led the newly joined Larvitar and turned toward One Direction.
"My lord, a newcomer from the Cerulean Branch, a Red Card Killer, and a Green Rank Killer have disappeared. After searching, we found A Pile of identification tag fragments and Poké Ball fragments in the ruins of some bushes."
The Silver Card Assassin leading This Time's trial sat above with his eyes closed, motionless. Below him, the Cerulean Branch leader, a Blue Card Assassin, lowered his head and reported cautiously.
A tray sat beside him, holding several pitch-black fragments and more than a dozen Poké Ball button discs—the hardest parts of a Poké Ball to damage.
"Dead or alive, find them. Go investigate."
"Yes, my lord!" The Blue Rank Killer was both shocked and afraid as he hurriedly withdrew.
Outside the tent, the Cerulean Branch's other Deputy Leader was Waiting For anxiously. When he saw the Blue Rank Killer, he hurried over.
"Leader, something may have gone seriously wrong this time!"
"What is it?"
"Our investigation found that the three missing people had complicated connections. The newcomer, code-named HL20, was abducted by the Green Rank Deputy Leader. The Red Card Killer responsible for recording his trial performance had clashed with Number 20 during the Cage Trial!"
"The newcomer killed in self-defense twice? Then Escaped the sealed perimeter we Arranged? How is that possible?" The Blue Card leader clearly did not believe it, but he immediately Thought Of a more important question. "What about Number 20's information?"
"That's the worst part. Before newcomers pass the trial, their data is uploaded to the system by the Red Card Killer responsible for the Cage Trial." The Green Rank Deputy Leader gritted his teeth. "But that madman probably wanted to kill Number 20, who had crossed him, during the trial too, so..."
"You're saying we don't even know Number 20's real identity now?"
"Yes..."
