Shuppet suddenly pressed itself right in front of Sato, its eyes filled with disbelief.
"Unown should live in an alternate dimension and cannot remain in the Elven world for long. Yet you were accidentally left behind by your companions."
Ignoring Shuppet and West's shock, Sato continued to himself, "So after you died and became a Shuppet, you still remained in the deserted Ruins of Alph, waiting for your companions to come fetch you and take you home."
"But you're no longer an Unown," Sato said softly, disregarding the fear on Shuppet's face.
"You're a Shuppet now—a brand-new life!"
"Eek!"
Shuppet frantically shook its head. It refused to accept that it had already died. Unown's mysterious power had allowed it to retain its memories, but that was also the source of its pain.
Sato stopped trying to persuade it and pushed Shuppet toward West. "I'll leave the psychological counseling to you. I hope you'll take good care of it."
"I will," West said, nodding solemnly.
Sato let West communicate and bond with Shuppet.
In his previous life, Sato had arrived at the Ruins of Alph because of a mission. By chance, he had discovered a broken wall covered in perfectly symmetrical Ancient Text.
Out of curiosity, Sato had tried every method he could think of to see whether or not he could uncover anything, but unfortunately, he found nothing.
In the end, with the mindset of trying his luck, Sato infused Dark Power into the broken wall. Miraculously, he established Soul Communication with Shuppet and learned about its past and present life.
That was also the first time he learned that Dark Power possessed the ability to communicate with souls.
Unfortunately, Shuppet, which had also seen Sato's memories, had become even more shocked. It was deeply afraid of Sato, whose hands were covered in blood.
Sato noticed Shuppet's attitude toward him. At the time, he had also been living a life on the edge of a blade, with neither the time nor the energy to heal a Pokémon's wounded heart.
Perhaps because they shared the same misery, Sato did not capture Shuppet to sell it. Once he completed his mission, he left directly.
"Sato, what are you thinking about?" West waved his right hand in front of Sato's eyes. Coming back to his senses, Sato shook his head, silently sighing that he had actually lost his most basic vigilance.
"Shuppet's problem is quite serious. I want to take it back to Violet City and guide it slowly."
"Mm, that's quite good. Did you check its talent?"
"I did!" West said excitedly, shaking the Great Ball in his hand. "A Shuppet with Pseudo-Elite Four potential! And perhaps because it was an Unown in its previous life, it can use Hidden Power."
"Tch, quite good."
If he had not already had the more outstanding Haunter, Sato, who followed an elite-focused path, would definitely have taken Shuppet into possession. Haunter's abilities also suited the characteristics of a ghost better.
The Shuppet line excelled at Physical Attack, but its Speed, Defense, and stamina were all rather average. Even if its attack power was not weak, it was still difficult for it to gain an advantage in close combat.
There was another problem: Ghost-types themselves had very few powerful physical moves, which greatly limited Shuppet's development.
By the time they returned to Violet City, it was already eight or nine at night. West invited Sato to be a guest, but Sato directly refused.
After casually finding a hotel with a fairly good environment, Sato cleanly and crisply said goodbye to West. He was still more accustomed to being alone.
Aside from being somewhat excessive when he intercepted Pokémon data from the beginning, West had shone in every other regard.
Why could those in power continuously maintain their family's glory and status? It was not because of the wastrel descendants everyone loved to see.
It was achieved step by step by people like West—wealthy, intelligent, capable, possessing both methods and a bottom line, and even more hardworking.
Sato did not say it aloud, but inwardly, he felt that West's standard protagonist template was somewhat dazzling.
The next day, after finishing his morning training, Sato took his one-million-yuan shopping voucher and went on a frenzied shopping spree. It did not really count as a spree, though, because anything involving Pokémon was expensive.
After replenishing his supplies, Sato did not go looking for West and left Violet City directly.
West was someone worth befriending, and Sato had kept his contact information. It was not because they had become friends, but because if Sato captured Pokémon of decent value in the future, he could sell them directly to West, which would be much more convenient.
This time, he still headed west, though his route veered toward the north of the Ruins of Alph. Not long after passing through the ruins, Spinarak's Pokémon Egg began to stir.
"Kuso?"
Zorua leaned close to the Pokémon Egg glowing with white light and sniffed it. Then it curiously poked it with its little paw pads before obediently sitting to one side, staring closely at the flashing Pokémon Egg.
"Jiejie~"
Haunter found it rather boring and flashed into the nearby bushes, leaving to entertain itself. Sato did not bother with it. In the wild, he tried to let them roam freely as much as possible.
"Yugi~"
"Are you looking forward to Spinarak being born? Do you think you'll have a little brother from now on?" Sato unusually teased Larvitar.
"Yugi!"
Larvitar looked up in alarm, staring at Sato in disbelief. How did Boss Sato know what it was thinking? As a pseudo-legendary, it should have little brothers!
"Crack, crack!"
The white light flashed more and more frequently before finally stopping. Accompanied by the sound of eggshell cracking, a brand-new life appeared in front of them.
"Chi?"
A soft, weak cry rang out. A palm-sized green spider opened its black pearl-like little eyes in confusion, sizing up the unfamiliar world.
"Chichi!"
Spinarak seemed to discover something. Its six spider legs moved rapidly, and it quickly climbed onto Sato's arm, tightly clasping around it like a bracelet before lying there peacefully.
"Please take care of me, Spinarak!"
"Kuso, kuso!"
"Lari~ Lari!"
"Squeak~"
Zorua was very enthusiastic, while Larvitar seemed a little nervous. Even though it was the culprit that had wiped out an entire nest of Spinarak, because of Sato, two Pokémon that would have been worlds apart in the wild got along amicably.
"Have something to eat first, then Have A Good Rest."
Sato took out Pokémon food specially prepared for newborn Spinarak. After eating and drinking its fill, Spinarak Drilled Into the Poké Ball without the slightest resistance, remarkably well-behaved! "Beep!"
Sato activated the Pokemon Talent Analyzer and placed Spinarak's Poké Ball on it. Spinarak's detailed information was quickly displayed.
Pokémon: Spinarak Gender: Female Strength: Infant Stage (Unable to battle) Potential: Elite Four (Poison) + Pseudo-Elite Four (Bug) Ability: Sniper Moves: Poison Sting, String Shot, Constrict, Megahorn (Inherited), Sucker Punch (Inherited), Toxic Spikes (Inherited)
Sato stared dumbfounded at Spinarak's data. Only after two seconds did he take the Poké Ball off, then place it back on from another angle.
The exact same data appeared again. Sato swallowed, unable to suppress the gleam in his eyes or the curve of his lips.
"Hahaha... I really am the protagonist!"
