As the referee read aloud the announcement solemnly, Volkner was left with only his last Pokémon.

The battlefield had also suffered severe damage. The Dark Burst Ball had blasted out a massive crater, and at its center lay a Luxray covered in wounds, its breathing nearly imperceptible.

Red light flashed as Volkner silently recalled it. He then turned and handed Luxray's Poké Ball to the medical staff behind him.

Clearly, Luxray's condition was no longer as simple as being unable to fight. Without prompt treatment, it might very well suffer lasting aftereffects.

In the Waiting Room, Flint and the others had all risen to watch. Flint clutched his afro, his eyes full of worry and anxiety.

"This is... they're fighting with True Fire now!"

"Of course they are! How could there be no True Fire after using Explosion?!"

Phoebe rolled her eyes at Flint. Compared to Volkner, whom she was not particularly familiar with, she naturally favored Sato. After all, they had once traveled together as companions.

"Alright, alright, keep watching the match. Injuries, whether light or serious, are always hard to predict in a battle."

Wallace hurriedly stepped in to smooth things over, bringing the argument to an anticlimactic end.

The others had also wanted to argue a little more, but seeing this, they dropped the matter and turned their attention back to the battlefield.

Phoebe's lips, however, kept moving. Though she made no sound, she was clearly still displeased.

Strictly speaking, Octillery had been defeated by Magnezone's Discharge. Tyranitar's Stomping Tantrum could never have one-shotted a soft-bodied Pokémon like it.

Although moves like Explosion had not been explicitly banned from major Pokémon League tournaments, trainers who cared for their Pokémon generally chose to forgo such moves.
